Google Voice

Google Voice is not quite ready to take over all of your voice and telephony needs, but it comes very close considering that it's almost entirely free.

A permanent follow-around phone number will ring any phone you want. Records incoming calls. Excellent online voice mail system

VoIP calls not always of high quality. Can't record outgoing calls. Conferencing can be messy. Message transcription far from perfect

Doesn't use the BlackBerry's built-in dialer. Somewhat buggy

Google Voice for BlackBerry lets you make and receive calls and text messages through Google's new "number for life" service, although it's not as tightly integrated as the Android version.

Google Voice vs. The World

The innovative Google Voice has kicked up a sandstorm of controvery, with Apple, AT&T, and even the FCC seemingly allied against the service. Find out why they're all wrong.

Whatever happens, one thing is clear: The previously innocuous Google Voice service has raised the hackles of industry behemoths like Apple and AT&T that guard their markets quite jealously. The violence of their reactions and the entrance of the FCC...
