The Fellowes Powershred DS-1 maybe on the expensive side, but it will get the job done

The metal basket is a real improvement over the plastic baskets in cheaper shredders. Since these baskets are an integral part of the shredder, if they break, the whole thing has to be tossed, so it's an important point to consider when comparing models.

This is a real improvement compared to the old style fellowes home shredders with plastic basket baskets. This has a wire mesh basket you can see through. It is more durable and tilts out to empty.

It is a bit tall and top heavy. You need to place it up against a wall, desk, or other stationary object, otherwise it will always be getting knocked over all the time (and will suffer damage).

Purchased from Office Max. 1st one replaced by Fellowes after 8 months. 2nd quit working 5 months later and money refunded under extended warranty with Office Max. Still trying to find a good home office shredder.
