iolo System Mechanic 8.5

This excellent PC maintenance tool packs enough simplicity and depth for pros and novices alike.

One-click scan and repair ; Provides a system rating before and after repair ; Fixes System Mechanic 8.0's problems

Pricier than some other options ; Performance enhancement not as good as TuneUp Utilities 2009

Iolo System Mechanic 8.5 is as thorough as previous incarnations, while eliminating the flaws found in System Mechanics 8.0 (and adding Windows 7 and 64-bit OS support). It may not provide the same performance-enhancing boost as TuneUp Utilities 2009...

Iolo System Mechanic 8.0

Despite a few hiccups, this PC tune-up software packs a mix of customizable settings and automated options for pros and novices alike.

Foolproof interface ; Medley of advanced and set-and-forget options ; Thorough scanning ; Low performance impact

Might need to tweak system settings to avoid a crash ; Hit-or-miss Repair All function

Iolo System Mechanic 8 - PC review

After you've lived with your PC for a year or so, you'll probably notice that the performance has dropped off considerably. Without the benefit if an IT department to regularly run the various system tools to optimise your computer, it could slowly...

Brings all tools into one place, various levels of control, easy to use

Duplicates many existing system tools, basic level can affect some other software items, ongoing costs

Whilst it is a neat piece of software, the real decision will be whether you consider it valuable enough to buy the ongoing subscription

Iolo System Mechanic 8.5 review

System Mechanic 8.5 uses a dashboard that offers a high-level view of your overall system health. The test system, with its years of debris, was rated as being in fair condition, a reasonable assessment.

The focus on utility and choice makes System Mechanic 8.5 useful, and it presents itself in a way that's as clutter-free as you wish. If you want one-touch optimisation, this is your path to happiness. But if you can't keep yourself from tweaking...

Iolo System Mechanic 8.0 review

At its simplest level, Iolo System Mechanic 8.0's menu headings are clear and kept to a minimum, but should you want more power, a series of sub-menus lend easy access to the more advanced stuff.

Iolo System Mechanic 8.0 isn't perhaps the miracle worker Iolo claims it to be, and many of its features can be accessed elsewhere, but it does do a good job of fixing the many startup and registry problems that afflict many PCs.
