By Aoife M. McEvoy (pcworld.com)

Interface appears more bloated IM component feels flat

The video quality of Skype 4.0 impressed me too. The video stream exhibited minimal choppiness, and I noticed just a couple of brief freeze-ups. Also, the colors appeared richer and less washed out

Free PC-to-PC voice, video calls. Low rates for calling to and from phones. Clear notifications. Large community. Video and sound quality is improved from the previous version

Default windows too large. Compact view requires two windows. Video image not as good as SightSpeed's. No video mail. No built-in call recording. No Web client

Skype's new interface takes some getting used to. It offers video calling and a bigger playground, but some will prefer the older version's more economical use of screen space. What's key, however, is that video and sound quality keeps getting better.
