Thinner, smaller and lighter than most magazines, the Reader Touch Edition (Sony PRS-600) lets you access up to 350 (or more with memory expansion card slots) of your favorite books from anywhere. The intuitive 6-inch touchscreen display makes ...

A bit bulky and a bit late, the BlackBerry 8230 Pearl Flip solves a problem that didn't need solving at all. It was sensible for RIM to think that people like flip phones and people like BlackBerries, so a flip BlackBerry would be a winner. But in the ...
Previews e-mails on external screen. Good 2-megapixel camera
Slow 3G speeds. Bulky. Hybrid keyboard's time may have passed
The BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 is a BlackBerry Pearl turned into a rather bulky flip phone, and it already feels like last year's model. In a competitive smart phone landscape, this one doesn't excel.

At its core, the Kindle DX is simply a bigger, higher-capacity, and more-expensive version of the wildly popular Kindle 2 e-book reader. The interface is the same, the dead-simple process of wirelessly downloading books is the same, and the content ...
Bigger, better screen. Super-thin. 4GB capacity (3,500 books). Wide selection of books, magazines, and blogs. Buying new titles is dead simple with the free, integrated cellular modem. Text-to-speech capability
Very expensive. No touch screen. Interface could be more intuitive
With a much-larger screen and more storage, the Amazon Kindle DX is a nice addition to the Kindle family. But its almost-$500 price tag might be prohibitively high.

Award: Editor's Choice!
With a new look, an enhanced screen, text-to-speech capability, and a host of additional design improvements, Amazon's Kindle 2 ($359 direct) offers everything that made the original Kindle a best-sellerand more. The price remains high, but avid ...
Super-thin. Improved screen. Better button layout. 2GB capacity (1,500 books). Free integrated cellular modem. Text-to-speech capability. Buying new titles is dead simple. Wide selection of books, magazines, and blogs.
Still no touch screen. No native PDF or .DOC support. Reads only proprietary e-book format. Interface could be more intuitive.
Despite some rough edges, the Kindle 2 is sure to drive e-books further into the mainstream.

The Samsung Highnote for Sprint wears its music-phone credentials proudly, with an unusual dual-sliding design that exposes a huge speaker and a fun, old-school iPod-style scroll wheel on the front. But being a solid music phone isn't just about ...
Large, powerful speakerphone. Several helpful features for driving including GPS. Fun home-screen interface
Dismal music software. Poor Web browser. Choppy streaming music quality
The Samsung Highnote is billed as a music phone, but it does better as a phone for the car with its loud speakerphone, GPS, and other roadworthy features.

The Amazon Kindle may be one of Oprah's favorite things, but Sony has been making e-book readers longer, and the sophisticated design of its latest, the Reader Digital Book PRS-700 ($399.99 direct) clearly displays this experience. With a touch ...
Touch-sensitive screen. Streamlined interface. Attractive design
Pricey. Doesn't provide wireless download of titles (unlike Amazon's Kindle). LED sidelights aren't very strong
The Sony Reader PRS-700 is an elegantly designed, easy-to-use device for e-book fans. As long as you can deal with the steep price and the lack of wireless book buying, it's a good read.

The Samsung SWC-E100, the first connection card for Sprint's new XOHM WiMAX network, is a simple device that does its job well (as long as you aren't a Mac user). The E100 is an ExpressCard, but it also comes with a PC Card adapter for older computers ...
WiMAX is really fast. Card works as advertised
Basic. Doesn't support EVDO or any non-WiMAX standards. No Mac support. No external antenna port
This simple, inexpensive ExpressCard is a solid first effort from Samsung for getting laptops onto Sprint's fast XOHM WiMax network.

The PC Edge, aka the Datawind PocketSurfer 2, does a very neat trick of rendering desktop PC Web pages quickly on a handheld device. But that just isn't enough to make it worth buying over a smartphone or UMPC.
Superfast Web page loading for a GPRS device. Displays Web pages including Java, Flash, and other technologies that most handhelds don't support.
Washed-out screen. Dithered graphics. Clumsy UI.

If you're over 30, you might as well stop reading this review now. As a 34-year-old geek, I've had trouble getting into the Sidekick mind-set. That's the mind-set of someone who would pay up to $200 extra to buy a phone emblazoned with the logos of ...
Smaller than previous Sidekicks. Easy to use. Fully customizable case
Very small text and e-mail message mailboxes. Poor camera. Not great at playing video ; Watch the T-Mobile Sidekick 2008 Video Review
Sometimes it's what you wear that matters, not what's on the inside. If that philosophy works for you, then it's time to buy a Sidekick with some cool customizable cases.

The summer 2008 software update for the Sidekick LX handheld fixes some of our top complaints about the device. But at the end of the day, the LX is still really bulky and doesn't have enough storage for text and e-mail messages. If you're an existing ...
Now supports Yahoo! Mail, Bluetooth stereo, and video recording.
Tiny mailboxes. New Sidekick model (2008) does everything this one does for less.
The Sidekick LX 2008 update is a nice boost for existing Sidekick owners, but this big ol' boat of a phone is looking like last year's model-which it is.
