Sony PRS-505

Have Waterstones got it right?

Easy to use, memory card slots, designed around a "reading" experience, plenty of controls, support for varied file formats

Menus can be slow to navigate, surface a little too cluttered, online e-book purchase a little underwhelming, no mains powerpack

Competitively priced and supported by a major bookstore, it remains to be seen how readily available other booksellers make their digital editions. Could this be the coming of age for the e-book?

Sony PRS-505

Trashy novel or book of the year?

The Sony Reader is one of many ways of consuming the written word, but doesn't feel out of place. It won't replace that feeling of running your fingers along a shelf of well-loved books, but it is a better experience than reading a PDF book on your ...

HP iPAQ 200 Series Enterprise Handheld (210,211,212,214,216)

HP iPAQ 214 Enterprise PDA

By Stephen Patrick

Will this phone-free PDA meet your needs?

Big, bright screen, enhanced software

Unconnected, bulky

The smartphone may have all but killed off the unconnected PDA but this is a great tool for those who need Wi-Fi access

Datawind PocketSurfer2

HSDPA over GPRS? Can it really deliver what it promises?

Whether you care how the PocketSurfer does what it does or not doesn't matter, what you should be interested in is that the results are good, and that's the promising bit.

Asus MyPal A696

Can Asus take on satnav?

Slim device, great anti-glare screen, build quality

Cursed by being just average at everything

Another day, another satnav. Can the MyPal A696 compete with the crowd?

HP iPAQ rx5900 (5910,5915,5935,5940,5965)

HP iPaq rx5900 Travel Companion

By Stephen Patrick

- Before the iPod, there was the HP iPaq, which for a number of years was as synonymous with PDAs as Apple is with MP3 players. However, until now the company hasn't really been a large player in the satnav market. Satnav companies, such as Garmin and ...

Compact. Powerful

Short battery life

Whether it's a PDA that thinks it's a sat-nav, or vice-versa, it's still one of the best all-round solutions we've used

Mio P350

Mio P350 GPS receiver

By Chris Hall

- The Mio P350 is the latest GPS enabled PDA from the Mio "DigiWalker" stable. The distinct difference between this model and previous A201 version is that the GPS receiver is now part of the PDA case - no more flipping out an extra blob. This is good ...

Compact, portable, PDA as well as GPS functions, complete kit in box

Ever so slow warm up, navigation software is frustrating, 2.5mm headphone jack

A tidy option with everything in the box, but the navigation is not as logical as many competitors, and despite SiRFstar III chipset, it still feels sluggish

Nokia 770

With most of us now having wireless networks at home and the urge to be on the Internet more and more (hey your online reading this aren't you') Nokia believes that its 770 Internet Tablet is the way ...

Wi-Fi, ability to stream internet radio, Google Talk if you're a member

Can't really see the point, glorified PDA without all the Mobile 5 software

Mrs Pocket-lint, who seems to be more sceptical of these things than we are, loved the concept but was unsure about the price. However, she did like the idea that the one off fee although expensive meant that it didn't come with any hidden costs and ...

HP iPAQ H2200 (2210,2212,2215)

Can bolting on a GPS cradle to a PDA be as easy as it sounds?

Not much

The cradle is overly large, the software is average, no Bluetooth, no Traffic option, too expensive

One to avoid
