Small and portable Excellent keyboard Makes text entry speedy and efficient Good battery life
Can't function without a connected Windows Mobile device Expensive Mini-notebooks offer more, and often for less money
The mini-notebook-like Redfly Mobile Companion is a £250 paperweight without a Windows Mobile device to provide it with computing power and connectivity. It can do nothing on its own, and that's its big problem.

Screen is slow to refresh No AC adapter provided Sony's software required for file transfer File transfer from Windows PCs only
Sony's Reader PRS-505 is the best-designed e-book reader we've seen. However, it's still unlikely to be an everyday replacement for paper.

If you can do without an integrated phone and a camera, the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth equipped iPAQ 114 Classic will represent excellent value for money.

Windows Mobile 5 rather than 6 No integrated phone
The lack of a phone might dampen the Asus MyPal A696's appeal for those seeking an all-in-one handheld, and we'd prefer Windows Mobile 6 rather than its predecessor. Even so, the £199 price, which includes navigation software, is attractive.

Large, high-resolution screen Bluetooth and Wi-Fi USB Host and Client support
No infrared protective case is inadequate no printed manual
Acer's Windows Mobile 5.0-based n311 has a large VGA-resolution screen, integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and plenty of memory. Infrared fans will be disappointed, though.

Lacks Bluetooth some navigation glitches during testing
The hardware design of this Windows Mobile 5.0 handheld with built-in GPS is up to Fujitsu Siemens? usual high standard. We just hope that the glitches with the navigation system are swiftly ironed out.

Gorgeous, high-resolution screen full-featured Web browser plus email client supports Internet radio and RSS newsfeeds attractive, easy to use and great at detecting Wi-Fi hot spots
Extremely sluggish operation relies only on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for connectivity VoIP and instant-messaging features have not yet been implemented device accepts only RS-MMC memory cards
The reasonably priced Nokia 770 is a neat idea and a slick device, but slow performance and a few missing features keep it from realising its potential.

Provides all you need for navigation in a single, well-priced package
Neither Bluetooth nor Wi-Fi built in short on memory navigation kit restricted to in-car use a wired solution in an increasingly wireless world
This is a well-priced Windows Mobile handheld/GPS navigation solution, although the wired car-only GPS receiver may not be to all tastes.

There isn't too much the PalmOne LifeDrive can't do with its integrated hard drive, its wireless connectivity and its multimedia capabilities, but it's way too expensive.
