Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate’ review

Batman: Arkham Asylum didn't inspire confidence when it was announced for one reason: Batman games were usually terrible. Rocksteady Studios, hoping to avoid making another bad Bat game, used Retro Studios' classic Metroid Prime as a model for...

Brings the claustrophobic exploration of Arkham Asylum back to the series ; Impressive freedom in how you explore the prison ; Most rooms feel like puzzles themselves

3D Arkham combat and traversal not suited to a 2D game ; Navigating the environment can sometimes be frustratingly illogical ; Dark art style makes it sometimes difficult to see environmental features

Armature Studio sticks to its strengths in the team's first Batman adventure, building an interconnected world that even bests certain aspects of Rocksteady's games.

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate: Bat-vania returns

Batman: Arkham Asylum drew a lot of comparisons to Metroid when it released in 2009. Arkham City and Arkham Origins have been steadily moving away from that formula ever since, trading upgrade-driven exploration for open-world gameplay. Blackgate,...

Solid combat, upgrades awarded through exploration, great comic and voice work

Map is hard to navigate, getting spotted is hugely punishing in predator segments

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate Review

When I heard that Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate would be a 2.5D adventure complete with many of the sweet abilities we enjoyed in the console iterations, I was excited. The PlayStation Vita could definitely use a top-quality title featuring the...

The Ugly: “Okay, so I’m here and that’s where I need to go…so why, why is it taking me so fu*&%^(* long to get there?!”

Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate review: Dynamic 2.5D

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate is the latest in the excellent Arkham series, and its first handheld game. It's also the first original game from Armature Studio since it was formed by Metroid Prime expats in 2008. Because both sides of the family...

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate is a 2.5-D game developed by Armature Studios that brings the Batman Arkham experience for the first time to Nintendo and Sony handheld systems. A companion game to Batman: Arkham Origins, players can continue the...

Batman: Arkham Origins -- Blackgate

Set several months after the events of Batman: Arkham Origins, and serving as something of a companion release to the console versions of that game, Blackgate once again finds players fighting crime as the Caped Crusader, albeit in a side-scrolling, 2.5D

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate Review

WB Games have not just stripped back graphics to bring the game to the Vita and 3DS, but instead brought in a whole new studio to work on a 2.5D Metroid [...]

"Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate" is not quite the runaway success that I hoped for at Gamescom. On the Vita the map is pretty confusing and requires constant checking to find out if you’re heading in the right direction. The backtracking is also...

Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate

It has to live up to both Rocksteady's Arkham games and expectations of a great Metroidvania - and it gets..

It’s a bit of a shame that the Arkham-inspired side of this game doesn’t quite live up to what came before, but the Metroidvania aspect certainly does. And this is something for which a lot of genre fans will be grateful.

Great Game, but a bit short

The game is fun to play and has a lot in common with its big brothers on the consoles. There are a few issues with the controls and it really isn't that difficult to complete, but an engaging storyline moves the game along at a good pace. Would...

Pretty good game

I bought this game because I have enjoyed the Arkam games for the PS3. I like this game, however, I feel that there are too many cut-scenes (videos) that take away from the flow of the gameplay. Otherwise I think it's a pretty good game.About me......

Graphics are good for a hand held unit

Too many "movie" breaks in gameplay
