Brother HL-5140 Laser Printer

The Brother HL-5140's compact footprint and low price ($200) make this model a good fit for the crowded workspaces and tight budgets of many small offices. If you need high-quality output produced at reasonable speeds, this Brother may be a perfect match.

A chart on the front page of the printed Quick Setup Guide serves as a table of contents, leading you through the different installation and usage options. The full User's Guide, included on the software CD-ROM in PDF format, is more detailed. This...

Brother HL-5140

This well-designed personal printer produces high-quality images.

The Brother HL-5140 distinguishes itself with crisp text and respectable graphics. For the price, it can't be beaten.

Brother HL-5140

Fast; compact design; expandable memory and network options; good text quality.

Mediocre graphics quality.

The Brother HL-5140 is an affordable laser printer that will grow with your small business or home office.

Brother HL-5140

By the usual criteria of size, weight, and price, the Brother HL-5140 ($230 street) is clearly a personal printer. At 9.9 by 15.0 by 15.1 inches (HWD) and 23.1 pounds, it's small enough to be a comfortable desktop companion and inexpensive enough to be...

Fast performance. Text quality just short of excellent. Easy setup. Unusually high-quality photos for a monochrome laser printer

Lower than usual graphics quality for a monochrome laser

Brother HL-5140 offers fast performance, near-excellent text quality, and better photo output than most monochrome laser printers. Graphics output is only fair, but good enough for most purposes.

HL-5140

I have two other Brother Laser printers and have had no trouble with them or this new HL-5140. It took about 2 hours to uninstall all of the HP processor laboring software and the PC went from an 8 minute boot to 4 minutes. This Brother product took...

Fast on Graphics

Very fast on printing graphics such as Streets and Trips maps ; I have a HP laser that cost 3 times the money and is much slower. I've printed at least 4 reams of paper on the factory installed toner cartridge

I wish it didn't take 8 seconds or so for the first sheet of paper to come out but I think that is still faster than most lasers

Excellent

I have standardized on the the Brother 5140 for my departments and it has been a very reliable printer. Brother has been a great company and I have had a couple of printers that user's broke that Brother took back under their warranty. Big thumbs up on...

The only con is a wish it used the same toner and drum that the 5040 does. I have over 20 of them and it would have been nice to only carry one set of toners. This is not a very big con

Gotta love lasers

If you need a good reliabe laserjet printer this is it. Works great on my home network thru a linksys print server.

Lets see what more can you ask for in a sub two hundred dollar laserjet printer. I have had mine for a few months now and absolutely love it. I upgraded the memory to the full one hundred forty-four mb, and have had zero problems with it

Its hard to find accessories for it unless you goto brother for them and then they aren't cheap, I had hoped to get the extra paper tray for mine

Nice Printer

Overall A great printer. Its cons are minor and the price is right for the level of quality printing.

Excellent print quality. Super easy setup. No problems with curling paper ; I got this to print to toner transfer paper for making printed circuit boards. It prints great to the toner transfer paper (PnP Blue) ; Has a nice toner save mode which prints...

Memory Expansion panel pops off really easy but its not realy a problem unless your moving it around all the time which I dont see why you would ; The tray extension tab in the output tray is really flimsy but that seems to be common among all...
