Brother MFC-495CW

While this all-in-one has lots to offer, it's marred by slow speed, annoying quirks, and merely average print and image quality.

Stylish and compact; great interface; good scans

Slow; convoluted paper tray; draft mode prints light

Like that beautiful blind date, we wanted to fall in lasting love with this attractive-looking SOHO multifunction printer. But, alas, the Brother MFC-495CW exhibited enough flaws on our tests for us to put aside its phone number

Brother MFC-495cw review

The 15-sheet Automatic Document Feeder is located on top of the scanner for unattended scanning, copying or faxing. Adjustable paper clamps allow for use of various types of paper

Great design, rotating LCD ; Excellent print/photo quality ; Good features ; Decent price

Slower than advertised print speeds ; Output tray ; Only manual duplexing

That doesn't mean the print speeds were horrible, but I expected more from this printer since it was advertised the MFC-495cw could print up to 35 ppm in fast mode. The fastest the MFC-495cw ever printed during my tests was at a rate of 15 ppm; on par...

OK

This is a decent printer with decent quality (nothing too bad or too great). Once the ink runs out, if you buy just a black cartridge, don't expect to print in only black because the printer won't let you for some stupid reason. This printer also...

Wireless, easy to load tray, decent software, pretty easy setup.

Small ink cartridges, frequent self cleaning, and won't print only black if other colors are out.

John" is comparing apples to oranges

I bought this exact printer at a popular brick and mortar store a while ago and it hasn't failed me yet. I've used all the functions on it and it performs quite well. The ink cartridges are a tad small but they are really easy to replace and I don't...

Wired or wireless connection ; Compact design ; Easy setup ; Decent picture quality ; Colour display panel ; Multi sheet scan and fax

Ink cartridges are on the small side ; Doesn't duplex, but not expected to at this price

So far so good...

Network installation worked without a glitch on XP, Vista and Windows 7

Installation is a little harder on Ubuntu (Linux)... but this is of no concern for Windows users

Worry Free

Easy setup. Separate ink cartridges for different colors (money saver). Performs as advertised.

Black ink seems to run out quickly. I guess the cartridge is a bit small. The paper tray does not slide in and out smoothly and comfortably. This might cause undue friction and damage. There may be some type of tray lubricant that would improve insertion.

Worry Free

Order got messed up because of the visa verification but no bad on Newegg's part. Its wonderful that they brought back movies to the Egg, they were sorely missed :)
