Brother MFC-7840W

Inexpensive monochrome laser all-in-ones (AIOs)—that is, the few that cost $300 or less—tend to be for personal use. Most connect only by USB cable. Even those with network connectors typically offer limited networking features, allowing printing over...

Fast. Prints, scans, faxes from a PC. Standalone copier and fax. Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections. Automatic document feeder

No duplexer

The Brother MFC-7840W packs almost everything a small-office or home-office user could want into a compact, monochrome laser all-in-one (AIO).

Monochrome laser all-in-one printer

Unless you need color prints, the Brother MFC-7840W is a good full-featured monochrome laser printer, fax, scanner and copier, reviewers say. With a duty cycle of 10,000 pages per month, relatively low toner costs and wireless networking, the MFC-7840W...

Very good scan, print quality, laser printer is fast, supports wireless networking, includes fax

Wireless networking difficult to set up, copy quality not the best

Review: Brother MFC-7840W multifunction printer

Capable of printing very good quality text and business graphics at reasonably fast rates, the MFC-7840W is a fine choice for offices that work in a black-and-white world.

Setup is a snap. After powering up the machine and installing the toner cartridge, you have three connection options: Ethernet, USB 2.0, or 802.11b/g wireless. The USB connection is plug and play, and when we connected the printer via Ethernet, the...

Drum Errors

Overall printer is OK but with the new built in Drum error makes the machine obsolete. NOt only do you need to buy the toner every 1500 pages you need to buy the drums. Quite pricey.

Wireless Printing

Brother has finally figured out how to make you buy those drums. Built in error message that can only be fixed by replacing the drums. I received this message on other brother printers but never had to replace them

Wifi hard to set up, loses connection often. Poor UI.

AVOID! Updated on Jul 6, 2011

On paper, the capabilities are attractive

In practice, the interface is clunky for all operations, and the wifi connectivity is difficult to set up and extremely unreliable

Good printer for the money.

Would recommend for anyone looking for a simple monochrome printer. This one is definitely a great value for the money.

Great print quality and print speed. Scanner can be difficult at times

Standard toner cartridge is great. The high yield (TN-360) doesn't fit well so there are constant paper jams to deal with from the paper tray

Great Printer--Horrible Scanner!!!

As explained.

How can a printer, fax, scanner be so great in two of their categories, and fall back to the 1980's for scanning!!! It is sad to see such a horrible product in the marketplace. If I had to do it again, I certainly would not purchase this printer

Horrible, horrible slow scanning

wireless doesn't work

Good print quality. Fast

The wireless function doesn't work at all. I tried setting it up with both a Mac and a Windows 7 machine. Neither will work. Tech support isn't helpful. I bought this machine specifically because I wanted wireless support

Excellent durable and professional build.

Durable and professional features

Honestly, none
