Brother MFC-885CW review

Brother's MFC-885CW is relatively expensive for a colour-inkjet multifunction peripheral (MFP), but it has plenty of features to justify its price.

Brother MFC-885CW: printer that does absolutely everything

This is one of the most complete office multifunction printers we've ever seen. but the MFC-885CW can't overcome its price or quality issues.

Brother MFU MFC 885CW

This is a multi function unit (MFU) as it has a fax and it also has a wireless phone unit attached to the side. I remember reviewing many units with phones attached but never a wireless one.

It is 36x39x18cm with the phone and it's socket adding 8cm to the 39cm width. The power lead fits at the rear of the left side well behind the phone so needs to further space, note I said power lead as there is no external power brick. The USB cable...

Brother - MFC-885CW All-in-One

The competition amongst All-in-One printers sees no sign of cooling down, with all the principal manufacturers trying to add that one extra feature that should - at least temporarily - keep the rest of the pack ...

Brother's latest multifunction printer scores good marks for wireless connectivity, impressive fax connectivity and the new widescreen LCD facility for picture previews, but has minor issues with scanner picture quality at the default setting and photo...

Complete and utter garbage.

I purchased a new HP laser multifunction machine for less that the cost of replacing all the ink cartridges. Don't waste your money on this machine.

Small, compact, great features, wireless

Wireless connectability limited, ink yield limited, frequent self-cleaning wastes ink, cannot print in black if one color cartridge is low, scan quality horrible, print quality terrible, complete set of ink cartidges exceeds the cost of the printer

Consumer review by:

Terrible quality product.

An obvious quality flaw has not been identified or corrected by the company. It should be removed from the market until these problems are corrected.

The flatbed scanner works okay and price compares well

Printed less than 10 copies and the yellow and cyan inks are empty. Replaced these two cartridges at a cost of over $30 and the same thing happened. Brother replaced the unit, only to have the same exact thing happen

Bloody rubbish

I bought a machine so I could set up a wireless network. Not only could I not connect to the network but I could not copy or 'print reports' because the machine was not able to draw ink from the black cartridge. I exchanged the machine after 3 days of...

Can't think of any. It looks good

Seems to have a variety of either software or design flaws

Consumer review by:

Terrible design flaws ruin this all in one.

-when someone is on the line, not even using the Brother cordless but any phone in the house or office, the machine is rendered useless. If the line is in use, you can't check messages, can't copy, can't fax, nothing, the machine becomes useless until...

cordless phone ; decent LCD screen

no phone pager, why would Brother skip this important feature ; no caller ID on call waiting ; not low voume settings ; no switching to cordless from base ; no cancel print ; no short outgoing messages ; can't stop hang ups from recording

Serious quality control problems!

I only made two color copies before the printer "ran" out of Yellow and Cyan ink. I kept receiving an error message: Yellow cartridge missing. Opening and closing the door fixed the problem for a few weeks. Finally the error message stayed on and I...

Lots of very nice features if they all work. Simple color and black and white copies. Uses plain paper

The set-up is user friendly if you have a Mac

Consumer review by:

A mammoth disappointment, to say the least!

The materials seem very flimsy and cheap. I dont have faith in their durability. When papers jam, one has to swivel the machine to access the back. It is a real pain. I have not had time to assess any other features and only bought this 3 days ago. My...

It looks good. Compact, lots of bells and whistles

The fax feed is too small. It keeps grabbing more than one page at a time. It is too slow. The paper tray is too shallow and needs frequent fills and seems very fllimsy. The printer makes too much noise, is too slow and is irritating to listen to
