Brother P-touch PT-1090 Family Labeler

The Brother P-touch PT-1090 Family Labeler is a battery-operated model designed for family use. It's powered by six AA alkaline batteries, though an optional power adapter (*Est. $18) is available. Label cartridges come in four sizes, from 3.5...

Inexpensive, can print iron-on labels, four label sizes, memory, frames, icons, symbols

Power adapter not included, wide label margins waste tape, label backing can be hard to peel, screen doesn't show exact label preview, some label media can be expensive

Decent Device, Terrible Cartridge

I started using the device without reading the manuals and was able to find my way around the menu's after some trial and error. Speaking of trial, my trial cartridge jammed after 15 prints and I had to throw it away because it was not repairable. I...

Portable, easy to use for basic jobs, lots of features, easy to access rear panel, prints clearly, looks nice, great keypad

Label hungry between prints (Margins are configurable to chain print but you have to manually cut afterwords), clunky interface, poorly lit screen, jams

Great for the Money

I would recommend this label maker to anyone.

This label maker is inexpensive. It has a wide variety of label tape options. Has multiple modes to customize the look of your labels. It is very easy to use

The only Con I have is that it wastes label tape. It would use a lot of tape to print a small label. After getting the settings right it uses a lot less but still wastes about an inch of tape before it starts printing the label. What I have done it...

Tape hog

Multiply tape price by two and you have a real cost of labels.

Lot of styles and features, good and smooth keyboard

Leaves empty tails of 2.5-5.0" on every label - wastes about 50% of tape and it's not a settings problem. Even narrow labels with 1/6" margins have about an inch of blank space

Good tool - limited availability of tape

Could only get the black letters on white tape at Staples. Would have liked to have other colors.
