Canon Pixma MP980

The Canon Pixma MP980 is a capable all-in-one device that prints, faxes, and copies documents in full color 4,800x9,600-pixel resolution, thanks to a unique six color ink bay that includes a special gray cartridge for more distinct grayscale photo...

Space-saving design; robust software; interactive LCD menu; dual-paper feeds; fast graphics and photo prints; auto-duplexer included.

Poor print quality; expensive; no fax machine; flimsy paper cassette; slow text output speed; unreliable wireless performance; unique gray ink can be hard to find.

The Canon Pixma MP980 multifunction printer, copier, and scanner are a step up from its predecessor, but the print quality isn't up to standard and it doesn't perform as quickly as the competition. The HP Photosmart Premium Fax all-in-one is a less...

Pixma MP980

Canon's Pixma MP980 color inkjet multifunction printer offers many premium-level features for photo enthusiasts. For its price ($300 as of 12/09/2008), it could be better in some ways, but it is, at least, progressive.

Intuitive control-panel design Dual input trays; automatic duplexing

Expensive; odd colorings on plain paper Rattletrap rear input-tray design

Ink costs are reasonable. The machine ships with standard-size cartridges: a 344-page pigment black (K), and 447-page photo gray, cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y). A replacement pigment black costs $13.99 (4.1 cents per page). The other colors...

Canon Pixma MP980 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer

In some ways, the MP980 is a straightforward update to the MP970, sharing most of the same features. It can print, scan, copy, and e-mail—by opening a message on your PC and adding a scanned document as an attachment. It can both scan and print...

High-quality photos. Scans and prints from 35mm film. Network and Wi-Fi support. Built-in duplexer

No fax support. Clumsy network installation. Can't set network support to accept both wired and wireless connections

The Canon Pixma MP980 Wireless Photo All-In-One Printer is a prime example of a photocentric all-in-one (AIO) that can also function as a standalone home photo lab.

Canon MP980 -- Top of the Line, State of the Art

Two components in the electronics department bucking the miniaturization trend (accompanied by more and more power) are monitors and printers. The advantage of a large monitor is clear enough, let's say. But what about printers?

Having reviewed (and therefore lived with) several multifunction devices over the last year, we've come to expect a glitch here and there. A function not well implemented, a feature forgotten, quality that was good-enough but not great. The attraction...

Canon Pixma MP980 Printer Review

Canon's Pixma MP980 Printer is an upgraded version of MP 970. The MP 970 had the distinction of printing great-looking photos while being far less expensive than any of its competition. The MP980 shares some of the same features and carries on in that...

Canon Pixma MP980

Canon's all new all-in-one printer, the Canon Pixma MP980, is the replacement for their older model, the MP970, and it comes packed with features. It's definitely an all-in-one in the strict sense of the term, allowing you to print, scan, and copy...

Very impressive photo prints ; Scans/prints from 35mm film & slides ; Network support and built-in duplexer

No fax support ; Network configuration is quirky

Text printing was fairly decent, but not as impressive as with photo prints. If you print any font smaller than a 9-10-point font, distortion is apparent and causes some issues with readability. If you are printing regular documents for personal,...

"Would have been good, hadn't Canon made it useless."

I hardly ever use my printer, still it is always out of ink. No exceptions. Even if I just replaced the ink cartridges, somehow magically it manages to be out of ink anyway.

Great feature set. OK build quality. OK software.

The showstopper is its insane ink usage. You could just as well buy a full set of ink cartridges and throw them directly in the garbage, instead of bothering with installing them in the printer first. Repeat ad nauseam.

"Hard to print black and white versions of color docs."

Suggest you test the printer before wasting money on it.

Nice looking box

The MX 870 is not even a match for my 15 year old HP 722 in print quality and certainly not a match in ease of use.
