Canon Selphy ES2

The Canon Selphy ES2 is a dedicated photo printer that conveniently combines the dye roll and paper in a single pack, so there's only one thing to load.

Print pack holds both dye roll and paper. Highly water-resistant. Reasonably low cost per page.

Does this pricey mini printer offer premium quality prints?

Easy to use ; Compact

Poor quality colour reproduction

The ES2 is nice to use, but the results are disappointing. It seems to produce rather weak reds, so skintones look flat and images with a high red content can look distinctly dull

Canon Selphy ES2

Although it offers no technical upgrades from its predecessor, an enhanced user interface and larger LCD display improve on the impressive ES1, making the Canon Selphy ES2 a pleasing choice for a dye-sub photo printer.

Excellent picture quality ; Improved user interface ; Complete portability with carry handle and optional battery pack

Heavy for its size ; Must use Canon's combined ink and paper cartridges ; No technical improvements over the previous model

*The launch price of the Canon Selphy ES1 was AU$349 but this has since been dropped, we assume to bring it in line with the new model.

Canon's Selphy ES2 is the most expensive dye-sub printer here. Paper and ink are cleverly contained in a single cartridge, with both tri-colour and black and white versions available.

Canon Selphy ES2 compact photo printer

The digital revolution has allowed Canon to involve itself not only in image capture, but output too. The company encourages home printing, like Kodak, by bundling cameras and printers together.

The Canon Selphy’s space-saving design is a boon, but its print speed and quality of output can’t match the best of the bunch.

Canon Selphy ES2

A relatively minor upgrade to the Canon Selphy ES1 model........

Large LCD screen, easy to use

Oversaturated prints, not a major upgrade

As a fun, convenient and easy-to-use printer it delivers, but unless you really need the larger LCD screen you're better off opting for the cheaper ES1.
