Excellent scan and photo print quality, great combination of scanner, printer, copier features, memory card reader and stand alone operation, CD/DVD printing

Sluggish when printing at top quality photo setting, furry text printing, copier function can get it wrong

While the RX640 might be slower than its claimed print speeds (21-ppm for economy mode is fairly accurate however) and text is a little on the furry side, for top quality photos and great scanning it’s certainly worth the wait.

You might expect Epson's Stylus Photo RX640 to be an evolution of the lower-end Stylus Photo RX520 we reviewed in our March issue. But despite a passing resemblance, this new product is quite different, both in looks and use.

Top-quality photo output ; excellent 2.5in LCD screen ; handles a variety of media

Design could be off-putting for upgrading users ; non-photo printing less impressive

There isn't much about the RX640 that surprises us, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Epson has once again turned out a top-quality product complete with its now trademark stunning photo output.

If you don't mind relatively slow print speeds then the Epson Stylus RX640 offers a wealth of printing options from a wide range of media, but possibly its best feature is its fast scanner.

Overall the RX640 is an excellent all in one printer, it has good allround scan quality, either photo or text. The Print CD facility is excellent

Before purchasing the RX640 I checked on Epsons website for compatibility with the Vista operating system, Epson stated is was Vista compatible, "Wrong", the drivers supplied on the installation software are not compatible with Vista, you have to...
