HP Pavilion dm1z (fall 2011)

The biggest story in laptops this year has got to be the rise of the inexpensive 11-inch ultraportable. Largely replacing 10-inch Netbooks, these systems are slightly larger, slightly more expensive, and significantly more powerful, thanks to the...

A solid upgrade to one of our favorite laptops, the new HP Pavilion dm1z adds Beats Audio, a better touch pad, and an updated AMD processor

Benchmark scores and battery life are about the same as those of the previous dm1z, and a promised Intel Core i3 version is still MIA

There have been plenty of 11-inch AMD-powered ultraportables this year, but HP's Pavilion dm1z was the first, and this updated version puts it back in the lead in this crowded category.

"Worked ok for a year, then died."

I am so disappointed in this machine. I've tried to be a loyal HP customer, but my experience with this thing, I'm finished with them. Can't tell you how disappointed I am.

Small, portable.

Very touchy. Just had to get near the space bar or touch pad and the cursor would jump all over the place. Also, apparently, made out of crappy components. Thing worked fine Friday. And Saturday, was dead. Poorly made garbage, I think. Stay away.

"Amazing Laptop!"

Brilliant Laptop, shame about IE9

Really fast at doing multiple programmes at the same time, good sound due to having Beats Audio and good webcam. Overall a excellent laptop!

Has IE9 already installed which is the worst IE so far! also kind of annoying when you want to insert a disc and then remember there isnt a disk draw so have to use the external disc reader!

"Cheap construction. HP dodge warranty obligations."

Never again. Complete waste of money. Penny wise, pound foolish.

Good idea, lightweight, compact

El cheapo construction, dishonorable warranty service tactics.

"Contrary to CNET's opinion, this is so overrated!"

I travel quite a bit so I needed a little computer to do on-the-go writing and light Photoshop work. After reading mostly good reviews about this computer I thought it was worth a shot, but it wasn't. Granted, I got mine refurbished, but WOW what a...

-Battery life

-Delay in typing

"Terrible laptop will never buy a HP again!!!!!!!!!"

Ultra Portable. Worked pretty descent in the beginning.

One red pixel stays on not covered under warranty ( have to have 5) Left speaker sounds like it is blown out. only works sometimes. Bloatware all over the place. Don't like having programs installed that I didn't install. Dead to me now.

"Bad buy. Won't buy HP again."

This is my 4th laptop, had already 2 IBM and a Dell laptop and it seems that these 3 laptops all have much better batteries than this HP. This laptop is also very unresponsive and touchpad seems sometimes to fail. Called HP support and so far, no...

- decent screen

- machine is slow, very slow

"Good Buy. Maybe a little too shiny."

The display bezel feels like laminated paper and easily slips out of place, and the case does not the have sexy texture that the description shows. I had to buy some rubberized tape to put on the lid just so I wouldn't constantly worry about dropping...

Lightweight, nice looking, good processor for graphics work and light gaming.

fragile, slick and shiny case that's hard to hold

"Repeating trackpad issue, avoid this product"

I have to disabled the trackpad then typing anything.

very nice form factor and battery life.

This product is simply not working. The trackpad randomly and automatically left click by itself, sometimes issued multiple left clicks. When typing, the worst case is it will highlighted a block of text and then deleted it.

"Perfect budget ultraportable"

Bought the original model of the HP dm1z back in June. Haven't been disappointed. In order to appreciate this ultraportable, you need to realize that it isn't going to be as powerful as a standard 15" or 17" laptop; you're buying it for it's mobility,...

Great battery life (especially w/ WiFi turned off).

Bloatware can slow down performance.
