HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One

The HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One is a basic home MFP in some ways, but goes well beyond the basics in others.

Touch-screen control panel. Wi-Fi. Prints through the cloud. Duplexes (prints on both sides of a page).

No Ethernet connector. No PictBridge support.

HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One Review: A Welcome Replacement

The $129 (as of May 9, 2012) HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One color inkjet multifunction (copy/print/scan) is a decidedly welcome replacement for the HP Photosmart 5510 e-All-in-One--a handsome but disappointing product that lacked manual duplexing and...

Cheap to buy ; Good output quality

No automatic document feeder ; Scanner lid doesn't telescope

This low-cost multifunction printer offers the duplexing and layout options that its predecessor lacked, making it a better buy for low-volume use. Its touchpad makes it more stylish, too.

HP Photosmart 5520

The HP Photosmart 5520 is an inexpensive multifunction printer that offers built-in duplexing, a touch panel and ePrint capabilities. It also provides reliable and good looking output but it lacks an automatic document feeder and the scanner lid hinge...

HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One

The Photosmart 5520 offers the duplexing and layout options that its predecessor lacked, making it one of the better—and more stylish—buys among low-cost, low-volume multifunction printers.

Good output quality

No automatic document feeder ; Scanner lid doesn't telescope

Paper handling with the Photosmart 5520 is rudimentary, but adequate for low-volume use. An 80-sheet input tray sits at the bottom of the unit. Output exits just above that, falling onto the back of the input tray, where a swivel-out extension catches...

Ease of use ; Quality prints ; Creative offerings

HP Photosmart 5520

The HP Photosmart 5520 is a mid-range multifunction inkjet that excels in all the right areas.

60mm touchscreen with touch buttons ; AirPrint and Android App support ; Good running costs for budget printer

Messy paper stop design ; Awkward memory card slot ; Paper tray restricted to 80 sheets

There's a single USB socket at the back, but wireless is the most versatile connection and is easy to set up. Lift the scanner section up and the printhead, with its four individual ink cartridges slides into view. It's very straightforward to remove...

HP Photosmart 5520 review - not the photo printer you're looking for

Although it's a useful home printer and scanner, this MFP produces some of the worst photos we've seen

HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One review

The 80-sheet input tray isn't the most capacious, but its simple yet sturdy design gave us few feeding issues. Unlike the 7520, there's no additional photo tray, so you'll have to get used to mixing A4 and photo media if you want to use multiple...

A nice touchscreen interface and a delicious price tag helps make the HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One a contender, and its low running costs won't hurt either. Its performance is solid rather than stunning though.

If you want an MFP that's better than average-looking and covers all the basics for light use, the HP Photosmart 5520 is definitely worth a gander. If you're checking out other printers in this price range, the Brother MFC-J625DW ($130) is the most...
