HP Photosmart C5280

HP's Photosmart C5280 shows how good design can tame an inherently complicated machine. This inkjet multifunction printer has a few limitations and a mountain of benefits--for a tidy $150.

High photo print quality, CD/DVD printing ; generous software bundle

Speeds are below average

This all-in-one offers many features (such as CD/DVD printing) and great photo quality, but its speeds are below average.

HP Photosmart C5280 Multifunction Printer

The HP Photosmart C5280 is a bargain of an inkjet multifunction at $150. Its task speeds aren't stellar, but they are acceptable for the average home user. It's better suited for graphics and photo printing than for text printing, though, so look...

Inexpensive; great graphics and photo print quality; excellent color scan quality; can print on specially coated optical discs; dedicated photo paper tray; low print costs; Roxio Express Labeler software is easy to use; print quality on discs is good

Text quality needs significant improvement; photo menus need to be reorganized to be more intuitive; can't produce scannable proof sheet; can't sort memory card contents by date; lacks a PictBridge port

Its features set is oddly unbalanced, and better all-in-one inkjet options cost just a bit more, but the HP Photosmart C5280 is a good bet for casual home users on a tight budget.

HP Photosmart C5280 AIO Printer

There's no way to know what the folks at HP were thinking when they designed the HP Photosmart C5280 All-In-One (AIO) Printer ($149.99 direct), but I'll lay long odds that they weren't focusing on text. The C5280 offers fast performance; typical...

Relatively fast. Scans, copies, e-mails through PC. Scans to memory card. Prints on printable optical discs

No built-in fax. No automatic document feeder. Text quality is way below par

Clearly designed for home use, the HP Photosmart C5280 All-In-One does a good job with graphics and photo quality (but not text) and prints on optical discs.

50% reliable, does not connect to computer 1/2 the time

The printing quality is just okay, the biggest problem is sometimes it just won't connect to the computer. Even after disconnecting every other usb device, power up and down it just won't connect...should have read the reviews before my purchase! Even...

Easy to use when it works

Doesn't work all the time, it's a game of roulette

Find another printer

I'm sure that you can find a more reliable printer than this one. I loved everything about it when it worked. I have never experienced so many progressive failures - maybe I have a lemon....

I like the quality of the photo printing, the color is beautiful. I like that the ink cartridges are individually changable

Software is a failure. Had to reinstall drivers every boot. 1 driver takes 30% cpu time. Printer slowly died: 1. stopped recognizing computers 2. ink system failed 3. Told me power down instead of unplug - I had powered down 4. Won't even come up
