Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W Gold Power Supply Review

Thermaltake has traditionally shined when it comes to computer power supplies in excess of 1000 watts. But in the past these power supplies have often been very costly. Today we cover Thermaltake's new 1200 watt power supply that is currently selling...

At the end of the day, the Thermaltake TPD-1200M passed all of our tests today and it did so in a way that was not awe inspiring but at the same time not dreadful. In fact, this unit performed much as it looked from the exterior; fine but not amazing....

Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W

The Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W is a massive power supply that can deliver power to any system you could build or dream of. With a total of 99 amps (!) on four 12V rails it easily exceeds any specifications and should be a good choice for a...

Insane 1200W power, Modular, Four 12V rails with up to 36A each, Good voltage stability, All cables are sleeved, Rock solid construction, Lots of connectors, 8-pin VGA connectors, High efficiency, Good Looks

Expensive, Bigger than your standard ATX PSU: 200mm(L)x160mm(W)x86mm(H), Fan not temperature controlled - noisy

The Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W can excel with superb power delivery capability of up to 1200W. While I doubt any single system can even get close to that, it certainly gives you a nice headroom for overclocking. This headroom results in more stable...

Thermaltake Toughpower 1000W (W0155RU)

So this week I'm playing with the Thermaltake Toughpower 1000W power supply. The particular unit on the bench is the W0155RU. This is the fixed cable version. According to the DC output table on the box, the output of each rail is identical to the...

Lots of power ; Great voltage regulation ; Very efficient ; Active Power Factor Correction ; Quiet 140MM fan

Nothing bad to say about this beast

If we add up our numbers, we end up with a score of 9.25. Since we work in "half point" here, I'm going to round that score up to a 9.5. Same score as it's 1200W big brother.

Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W (W0156) Overview

If you're one of those folks that believes the FUD about each modular connection of a power supply having the same electrical resistance as a wire the length of the distance from the Earth to the Sun, you don't have to miss out on Thermaltake's latest...

As for scoring the fixed cable version of this power supply; the only part of the score I would change between this unit and the modular unit is to take a point away for functionality due to the loss of a modular interface and the 50MM shorter cables.

Thermaltake Toughpower 1200w PSU

If you ever wanted an example of how quickly technology is advancing, there are few better places to look than power supplies. Yes, I said power supplies. For instance, the last Thermaltake Toughpower PSU we reviewed here was back in January of 2006,...

Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W PSU

It's been a few months since we have reviewed a PSU and we are now starting to work our way through a mounting pile of them. Thermaltake is known for making good quality PSUs and their Toughpower series has been pretty solid in the past. Today we are...

Low electrical noise ; Rated at 1200W continuous ; Modular with lots of PCIe connections ; Appears stable with a fairly hefty system ; Comes with vibration dampener for PSU to case contact

Pricey - Currently available for ~$340CAD

The Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W PSU is a power house. This PSU comes equipped with four +12v rails and supports 6 PCIe devices - 3x 6-pin and 3x 8-pin. It is mostly modular and features a nice large fan that provides very good cooling to this unit...
