Intel DX58SO

By Gordon Mah Ung (maximumpc.com)

Rifling through the box that the Intel DX58SO "Smackover" board came in, we were surprised not to find "love" and "hate" brass knuckles, because the motherboard definitely conjures feelings of both extremes. If you think we're being disrespectful, ...

Good performance with the safe embrace of the Intel name

Four DIMM slots and funky SATA ports make us mad. Very mad

If you think we're being disrespectful, just take one look at the board's SATA ports. That will tell you that somebody at Intel still doesn't know that today's graphics cards are big, huge, honking affairs. Since Intel oriented all the SATA ports ...

Intel Core i7 975 3.33GHz Processor Tested

By Sean Kalinich (tweaktown.com)

Intel has a new flagship weapon out in its Core i7 975 processor and today we get the chance to see how deserving it is of its flagship status. Introduction

The i7 975 is a nice CPU and one that will fit nicely at the top of the Intel i7 line-up. The performance in rendering was very impressive and cannot be overlooked, but in the end if you are doing media encoding or are a gamer there is not much to be ...

Great example of why Intel is the market leader

By Shooter (newegg.com)

I am a photographer, not a gamer ... So I am not the one to ask if you're looking for a gamer's point of view. Check the reviews out there... Unless you are a seriously hardcore gamer, the 8xx series is the way to go... You are not likely to notice the d...

Powerful and energy efficient ; Great value ... Price/Performance ratio is stellar ; Gives you what you need without what you don't ;

There are not a lot of cooler options out there for the LGA1156 socket yet ; Doesn't clean my house for me ;

Great CPU

By Mike (newegg.com)

Faster than the older 920 socket. For the price impossible to beat.

I purchased this because I felt it was at the sweet point price wise. Just slight more expensive than the AMD high-end with a ton more in the performance category ; Passmark score on an Asus Formula III motherboard was 8153 ;

I using the stock heat sink ATM. It seems to get the job done but is a little cheap. I elected to keep the stock cooler ; because I could not find a third party cooler which seems significantly better ( early days ) ;

Nice Processor

By Maestro73 (newegg.com)

First new build in about 4 years. Got this for gaming and some video work I plan on starting. Didn't care for the push pins on HSF mount. But if you take your time and do some reading up online, it's relatively easy to install. Just make sure the the scre...

Fast, relatively cheap, and quite a step up from my A64 4200. Relatively easy to install ; Stock cooler is fine if you don't plan to OC. And the fan is quiet ;

I'll echo everyone else sentiments - if you want to OC the stock HSF is lacking. (Always funny watching the temp shoot up running Prime95.) But I'm not an OC'er so it'll do until I find the right replacement. I'm mostly interested in lower temps during ga...
