Acer PH730 review

Affordable home cinema projectors are coming thick and fast

Sharpness ; Brightness ; Value ; Quiet

Occasional rainbow effect ; DVI is RGB colour space only ; Digital input detection issues ; Black levels

A perfectly credible HD Ready DLP effort that only suffers in comparison with the Optoma HD72i.

Acer PH730 review

The PH730 won four stars when we reviewed it in Shopper 224. Since then the price has dropped by £646, so we wanted to see how it compares with newer models.

Acer PH730

Acer is breaking free from its PC shackles and sniffing around the home cinema scene, but can the new boy's budget DLP projector cut it at the sharp end?

Natural colours. Decent motion tracking. Acceptable detail retrieval

Doesn't excel in dark scenes or handling vivid colours. Slow menu. Average build quality

Acer PH730

Acer may be better known as a PC brand but the PH730 is designed for home cinema use. The competitive price is a tempting attraction but cutting costs rarely leads to class-leading performance.

Affordable price; decent specification; detailed and cohesive images

Average build quality; unresponsive usability; muted colours
