Epson EH-TW5900 review

Lies. Damned lies. And projector specifications. For proof, look no further than the fact that the Epson EH-TW5900's claimed contrast ratio is poorer than its cheaper TW3200 sibling.

Good images ; Runs very quietly ; Good optics ; 3D compatible

Slightly longer throw than normal

Epson EH-TW5900 review

There's no getting around it: the Epson EH-TW5900 is a remarkable projector. The cheapest in a fleet of 3D-capable home cinema models from the market-leading brand, it confounds expectations of what to expect from a sub £1,000 (well, it's £999) LCD PJ.

Cinematic Full HD images; funky design; operationally quiet; integrated JPEG viewer and speakers; decent 3D performance

Contrast could be better; no image interpolation options; 3D glasses not included

Epson EH-TW5900

Epson breaks the £1k barrier with its latest 3D projector.

Exceptionally cheap ; 3D pictures are pretty effective ; Generally runs quietly

Very average black level performance ; Dynamic iris sounds clumsy ; No vertical image shifting

You can never depend on such manufacturer-quoted figures for accuracy, but the differences between the TW5900 and TW6000’s specs in these two areas - especially contrast - are sufficiently high to raise a least a little concern over the Epson...

Epson EH-TW5900 review

With air vents that look like the menacing grille of a sports car, Epson's EH-TW5900 a good-looking projector. It's also well-equipped thanks to a 1080p resolution, 3D support and plenty of ports for connecting your devices.

Despite the lack of its predecessor’s lens shift, this is a great LCD projector. If you need 3D support, it’s a great choice

Epson EH-TW5900

It may not excel with 3D, but as a 2D projector the Epson is a considerable achievement

Sturdy build, impressive spec ; bright, believable and stable pictures

Doesn’t have the detail levels of the very best rivals ; not a great watch in 3D

Less impressive with 3D Unfortunately, it’s when the Epson’s at its most expensive – when you’ve shelled out another £180 for a couple of pairs of 3D specs – that it’s at its least impressive.

Epson EH-TW5900 Full High Definition 3D Home theatre projector

Epson have for years been the market leader in projectors as well as in the home theatre market. They have yet again broken the benchmark with the new EH-TW5900 projector. This unit give you the ability to get full high definition 3D movies in your...

2D performance was very good, the projector has great detail quiet operation and is bright enough for a lit room. For a good 3D we found you should have a fairly dimm room but the image quality was very good. The EH-TW5900 is a solid performer and...
