Editors' note, March 11, 2007 The rating on this review has been lowered from 8.1 to 7.5 due to changes in the competitive marketplace, including the review of the Sony VPL-VW200 and the DLA-HD100 .

Reproduces deep shade of black; solid video processing; excellent feature package; numerous picture adjustments, including LCoS panel alignment.

Primary colors, especially green, are quite inaccurate, making overall color fidelity suffer.

The JVC DLA-HD1 projector does a lot of things very well at a reasonable price for a 1080p projector. If JVC were to improve color accuracy, it would be a world-class product.

The JVC DLA-HD1 is one heck of a projector, with the best blacks I've yet seen. Detail is exceptional and shadow detail is better than many displays can manage. Aside from the frustrating menu system, I'd be very happy living with this puppy.

JVC DLA-HD1 1920x1080 Home Theater Projector

Since the September 2006 CEDIA Expo we've seen the introduction of at least six 1080p projectors priced at or below $6,500. We've already reviewed three of them (the Sony VPL-VW50"Pearl,", the Optoma HD81, and the Mitsubishi HC5000. A fourth, the JVC...

JVC DLA-HD1 1920x1080 Home Theater Projector

The big story of the past couple of years has been the dramatic drop (or, from the industry's view, erosion) in the price of flat panel displays, both LCD and plasma.

Sharp, crisp image, Superb blacks and shadow detail, Quiet (but not silent), Remarkable value

Lacks separate high and low color temperature adjustments, Color points could be more accurate

JVC DLA-HD1 D-ILA Projector: On the Bench

Features We Miss: Please.

If Sony owned CEDIA after introducing the Pearl, JVC's DLA-HD1 was the most talked about PJ coming out of CES 2007. The DLA-HD1 is a three-chip 1080p rig that uses improved fill factor and a new optical engine with improved light polarization to get...

JVC DLA-HD1 review

But curves alone do not maketh a great gadget, and there is science behind this JVC's imposing figure. In fact, we'd go as far as to say that this is one of the most ergonomically successful JVCs we've seen in a good while. The perfect mix Those...

JVC DLA-HD1 1080p LCD Projector

Has JVC produced the best home cinema projector ever? John definitely thinks so.

The best home cinema of 2011: a round-up of 2011's best home cinema products from blu-ray systems to home cinema projectors.

Product Specifications

The JVC DLA-HD1 is a full HD front projector with a native contrast ratio of 15, 000: 1, a level that ensures outstanding black reproduction without sacrificing picture brightness since there is no iris mechanism. The high native contrast ratio is achieved through the combined use of a new 0.7-inch full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) D-ILA device and a new optical engine. Like all D-ILA-based JVC front projectors and rear projection televisions, the DLA-HD1 uses three D-ILA devices - one each for red, green and blue color reproduction. It offers a 2x zoom lens, a lens shift mechanism, and front fan intake and exhaust for placement flexibility, so its use is not limited to a dedicated home theater room. In addition, the ultra high pressure mercury lamp is easily accessible from a side panel.
