Optoma HD33 Review

Great color, good contrast and strong black level; small and lightweight.

No lens shift feature; 3D glasses cost extra

Few projectors leave me feeling as ambivalent about them as the Optoma HD33 ($1,500 street) does. On the one hand, I love it. It's an impressive projector at a bargain price, with 1080p resolution in 2D and 3D and superb image quality. On the other...

Breakthrough price for 1080p 3D. No video converter needed for 3D with Blu-ray players, cable TV boxes, and the equivalent

Rainbow effect shows just often enough to keep it from being an extraordinary choice

The Optoma HD33 delivers gorgeous 2D and 3D HD images, but shows rainbow artifacts often enough so you should approach it cautiously if you see the rainbow effect easily.

Optoma HD33 3D Projector Review

A couple years ago, Optoma redefined the projector market by introducing a 1080p model for under $1000. That was unheard of. What's equally unheard of is a 3D projector under $3000 - except that Optoma has now broken down that barrier again, too. And...

Optoma HD33 3D DLP Projector

Like it or not, 3D compatibility is becoming nearly ubiquitous in midrange to high-end flat panels and projectors. But what about those who are looking for an entry-level projector with 3D? Are they out of luck? Not according to Optoma, whose HD33 DLP...

The HD33’s 2D mode calibrated quite well, although the black level was fairly high at the image size I used (16:9, 76 inches wide). A larger screen would help this, and there’s enough brightness headroom, even in STD lamp mode, to fill such a screen....

Hands-on Review: Optoma HD33 DLP 3D Home Theater Projector

The Optoma HD33 offers entry-level features, but a picture quality much larger than its price.

Mood lighting, stretch-out seating and privacy make these home theaters a Valentine’s Day treat.

It is a single chip DLP projector that's pretty bright. That is to say, it's Best mode, even after calibration is noticeably brighter than most of the home theater projectors we review in their best modes

Brightest 3D projector we've reviewed to date, and the first that has reasonable brightness on an average sized and surfaced screen ; With about 1000 lumens in best mode, easily handles large screens for 2D ; Good overall color ; Skin tones are pretty...

Black level performance is definitely entry level ; Limited placement flexibility (typical of low cost DLP projectors) ; Adequate, but not plentiful lumens for 3D ; Minor 3D artifacts including crosstalk ; Could be quieter (but not bad) ; Remote...

Final notes: overall, documentation quality (lacks some details) , lamp life, and general feature set a pretty typical for a DLP projector in its price range

I like it

It's the only projector I've ever used. Also, the first time I've had a such a large display. I have a cheap 135" screen Used daily, sometimes rather heavily. The bulb still hasn't actually died, but the projector now warns on startup that the bulb has...

Great picture, especially with HD channels/content, and anything from my standalone bluray player ; I always thought 3d was a gimmick and I still think it is. The family likes it though. 3d from my htpc is bad, but from standalone bluray player it's...

Newegg extended warranty is worthless. I bought it because the bulb is expensive. Finally need a new bulb and apparently the warranty Newegg sells does not cover the bulb. Why else would I buy the extended warranty ; Nice racket, I wish I could sell...
