Panasonic PT-AE700U LCD Projector Review

The PT-AE700U offers great features, great color, good details, hi-def capabilities and ease of use - all for a fantastic price. When I compared this projector to some of the other high-end projectors I've seen, mostly DLP, the PT-AE700U doesn't quite...

High Definition resolution ; Quiet Fan ; Lens Adjustment ; No Screen Door Effect ; Simple Function Lighted Remote

Difficult operating Instructions ; Poor initial calibration

Panasonic PT-AE700U LCD Projector

We've reviewed several Panasonic projectors in the past few years. Their price ranges have varied slightly, but two things have remained constant: a decent picture and an ugly box.

Summing up the PT-AE700U is pretty easy. It is a bright projector for the color accuracy it provides (always a bonus), with deinterlacing that won't require a progressive-scan DVD player. Its black level isn't great (typical of LCD projectors), but it...

Panasonic PT-AE700U LCD projector

Now Panasonic has followed up with the PT-AE700U, and it's more than just an upgrade of the PT-AE500U. The '700 has some new bells and whistles of its own, including a longer-throw projection lens, auto iris for deeper blacks, and an optical system...

Panasonic PT-AE700U

A year ago, Sanyo and Panasonic slugged it out with their popular Z2 and L500u, both selling for around $2000. As I write this (10/04), it looks like we have a rematch, with Sanyo's forthcoming Z3 and this new Panasonic AE700U. Since these new...

and Con's ; Wow! For $2000 and change this is one excellent projector. I am most impressed by the dramatic improvement over the older L500u (AE500u). I still see some of the older model still advertised for a few hundred less, but this is a huge...

Noise in the picture (it is controllable with the noise reduction menu option) ; Vertical banding - not a good thing but rarely annoying ; Colors seem off a bit without calibration, in many of the color modes ; Warranty only 1 year (2 year additional...

The Panasonic AE700u is a great, affordable projector in the 1280x720 resolution class, and should certainly be near the top of your shopping list. As you look below, you will note there are some serious issues under "Con's" but they are mostly, easily...

Warranty is meaningless

I had a good experience with the PT-AE3000U projector for about 15 months as the picture was good. After 1800 hours of time on the original lamp, I purchased a replacement lamp March 2010 from and it failed 2 months later after only 225...

Good projector while it lasts

Replacement lamps are garbage ; Panasonic does not honor warranties

Best at the time, 900U and 100U are even better.

I installed this projector in my house before selling it (the house) as an upgrade to the well used Sanyo XP21N I had before. The panasonic was plenty bright, and the picture was amazing, with no screen door. A very slight amount of vertical banding...

Awlful Bulb Life

I got 695 hours on low power(extended life) with fan on high. Its suppose to be 3000. Bulb dims with use. While picture is excellant and far better than expected , be ready to pay thru the nose for constant bulb replacement.(Typically $300) Wait until...

Short bulb life

Bulb was supposed to last 3000 hours in economy mode. I figure I got about 1100 hours. It cost me $427 dollars plus over 100 miles of driving to get it fixed. Great repair crew in El Cajon Calif.

Great Machine but

Short bulb life

Compact enough to sit on a bookshelf, it is packed with advanced features designed to bring you a whole new level of home theater enjoyment.
