The Best Projector for a Home Theater

With its superb image quality, easy setup options, and comparable affordability, we think the Sony VPL-HW45ES is the best projector for dedicated home theaters.

The Sony VPL-HW45ES offers the best mix of picture quality, light output, and price. It’s quiet, easy to set up, and a great projector all around. If you want a step up in picture quality (including wide color gamut colors), the Epson Home Cinema...

Sony VPL-HW45ES HD Projector review

Maybe we don't need 4K after all?

Cinematic picture performance ; Top notch detail processing ; Superior motion handling ; Relatively quiet

Too dim for media room use ; Needs professional installation ; Lack of a 12v trigger is irritating

This sensational Sony is a welcome update on a sumptuous 1080p projector design. If you're planning a dedicated cinema room, it's a blockbuster you won't want to miss…

Sony VPL-HW45ES review

From the moment you switch it on, you'll discover a talented projector

Crisp, detailed picture ; Natural colour pallet ; Easy to set up

Nothing at this price

From the moment we switched on this Sony we could tell we were on to a winner, and that notion never wavered

Sony VPL-HW45ES

The VPL-HW45ES is the successor to a classic Full HD projector, the VPL-HW40ES. That's a formidable heritage, but Sony has had two years to come up with ways to improve on it. The result: it's really, really good. Your movies will look great, but low...

Sony VPL-HW45ES 1080p SXRD Projector Review

Sony has a new 1080p SXRD entry level projector in the shape of the HW45ES and it is an absolute cracker!

Good black levels for this level of the market ; Excellent colour accuracy ; Good shadow detail and dynamic range ; Excellent video processing ; Good motion ; Excellent input lag for gaming ; Good quality lens and sharpness

Not much wrong at this price and performance level

The best way to conclude this review is by stating the obvious. If you want accurate cinematic images with decent blacks, good shadow detail and stunningly accurate colours for under £2,000 there is no other choice to be made. No, it is not perfect and...

Simply great picture

Really great picture in all of the preset modes. HD content, especially animated movies like Pixar ones, looks stunning. Blacks are nice and dark too. It's pretty quiet, even sitting directly under it you don't notice the fan noise. The only thing that...

Excellent 3D 1080p projector

With default settings this projector was OK. There was some visible jerking in movement but the colours were good. However, after tweaking the settings the motion is smooth and the colours are outstanding. There's lots of contrast, the blacks are deep...

amazing contrast , 3d is immersive and easy to setup , quiet fan , good adjustment (up/down/left/right throw) , great blacks and whites

does not come with 3d glasses , default settings need changing

Best projector under £2k

This is my fourth projector and easily the best I've owned. It's used in a dedicated cinema room and the picture across the board, from blu ray, dvd, set top box and Apple tv is excellent. It's not exactly small and light, so if you are mounting it on...

picture quality , great black levels , quiet running in low mode , vertical and horizontal lens shift

Great Product

This is my first projector but I have been put off in the past with various issues that projectors have like rainbows or lack of contrast. This has pretty much none of those and is simply superb. Well worth the money.
