Sony VPL-VW1000ES 4K SXRD 3D Home Theater Projector Preview

One of the "gotta see" events at CEDIA were the 4K projectors on hand. Now these weren't commercial theater products. Companies like Sony Electronics were releasing home theater products that bring the 4K experience to the home. That means that their...

Sony VPL-VW1000ES 4K SXRD Front Projector Reviewed

Sony had been at the forefront of the 4K movement, and the VPL-VW1000ES 4K projector is the company's biggest offering in that regard. Andrew Robinson took the projector to task and was shocked by what he discovered.

As a person who has worked with 4K as director from capture to exhibition, I know the benefits it provides viewers and professionals as a format. Because of this, I hold out hope for its eventual release into the home markets. Because of what I know...

Sony VPL-VW1000ES

I'm just dazzled by this projector. I thought it was outstanding when I first saw it at CEDIA '11. The VPL-VW1000ES projector (pre-production) had some issues back then, but the overall potential was obvious. At the CES show in January, it was even...

Once again, Sony provides exceptional pixel/panel alignment capabilities. Adjustments can be done automatically, or manually (over 100 zones, I believe), in increments of about 1/10th of a pixel. Now remember, this is a 4K projector, so that's a lot...

Sony doesn't mention that this projector doesn't support external anamorphic lens future. Zooming is not the same as external anamorphic lens. I hope Sony will fix this, otherwise pro users will be disappointed.

4K HEAVEN

So looking beyond the deep blue waters it is hard to imagine the future and just how much better it possibly could get from here. The 1000ES has surpassed all of my expectations. Sure many will say it is expensive but when has being on the cutting edge...

Sony VPL-VW1000ES review

Offering four times the resolution of Full HD, the Sony VPL-VW1000ES projector brings the clarity of 4K digital cinema to the home for the first time

Astonishing 4K video quality ; Great upscaling of Full HD ; Deep, immersive 3D

No native 4K movie content ; Stratospheric price tag ; No digital still card reader

With this revolutionary projector, Sony offers a glimpse of the (video) world of tomorrow. Even with caveats about 4K content (you can’t buy any) and that withering price tag (you can’t afford it), the significance of its performance can’t be denied.

Sony VPL-VW1000ES projector review

Those seeking the visual equivalent of fine-dining are traditionally best served at a 4K digital cinema. An eight-million pixel image, spread large and bristling with detail, is a feast for the eyes befitting the planet's premiere cinemas. But now...

Astounding resolution; 4K upscaling for Blu-ray and other sources; stylish design; low operating noise; high quality optics

No source of commercial 4K video content; expensive when viewed primarily as a 2K projector

Recommended!

Sony VPL-VW1000ES

Ladies and gentlemen, the 4k AV era has arrived. Kind of.

Brilliant 3D pictures ; 4K images look insanely good ; Upscaled 2D images much better than expected

Hardly any native 4k content right now ; Black levels not as good as those from JVC’s latest projectors ; Limited colour management

Sony VPL-VW1000ES

Terrific with the very limited 4K2K material available, but expensive as a conventional projector

4K2K capability ; strong contrast performance ; crisp detail ; impressive build ; ease of set-up ; quiet in use

Lack of 4K2K material ; odd choice of panel ratio ; struggles with DVD ; high price

Value for money doesn’t really come into it with this product. It’s the first 4k2k projector we’ve reviewed and, if you want something with this capability, there isn’t much choice out there.
