Sony VPL-VW60 review: Sony VPL-VW60

Sony VPL-VW60

The Sony VPL-VW60 has accurate color decoding and reproduces a deep shade of black; comprehensive feature package.

Inaccurate primary colors.

While its color fidelity is not nearly as good as other late-model Sony SXRD products, the otherwise good-performing VPL-VW60 home theater projector remains a solid value.

Sony VPL-VW60

Rich contrast., Easy, versatile installation.

Poor interlaced-PAL processing., Occasional lack of finest details., Some blur during fast motion.

Sony’s ‘black pearl’ impresses with enormous contrast and a fascinating, cinematic picture. It’s therefore easy to forgive small weaknesses in PAL de-interlacing and the slight trailing effect. The score nevertheless has to reflect the device’s...

Sony VPL-VW60 Bravia SXRD 1080p Cinema Projector Reviewed

The update to the lauded VW50 or "Pearl" projector, Sony's new VPL-VW60 or "Black Pearl" looks to improve upon the breed by offering increased brightness, better contrast and more accurate colors. Did they succeed? Find out as Home Theater Review takes...

The VW60 maintains Sony's strong aesthetic design, making for a sleek-looking statement in your living room or home theater ; The image quality is punchier and more detailed this time around andlight output is better, but only just. Still, the...

The new black color, while menacing, isn't as room-friendly if you're going for a ceiling-mounted stealth look ; The projector, while quiet, is far from silent ; The VW60 still can only be enjoyed to its fullest in a completelydarkened room, for the...

With a price tag of $5,000, the SonyVW60 is a solid performer and a great projector, but it's not thebreakout runaway success the Pearl was a few years ago. You see, sincethe advent of the Pearl, every manufacturer has released their "answer"and some,...

UltimateAVmag.com: Sony VPL-VW60 SXRD Video Projector

When it was introduced at the 2006 CEDIA Expo, Sony's VPL-VW50 redefined the entire front-projector price structure. Of course, a few other manufacturers were ready with their own new projector announcements at that show, but the VW50which came to be...

Excellent image with good color, detail, and superb black levels, First-rate video processing, Fan noise is nearly inaudible

Color space could be more accurate, Some rare artifacts in the auto-iris modes

With its current lineup of projectors, Sony is clearly in this game to win. And while the competition has become tighter since Sony introduced the original Pearl, the introduction of the Black Pearl keeps them squarely in the running. There are lots of...

Sony VPL-VW60 SXRD Video Projector

Now, barely a year after it hit the market, the VPL-VW50 has been replaced by the VPL-VW60. Priced at $5000, the same as its predecessor, the new model employs refined SXRD imaging chips that are said to provide twice the native contrast ratio of the...

Sony VPL-VW60

As much as I have been impressed with the new 1080p LCD projectors, the picture quality of the Sony appear to be a cut above

VERY film-like ; Great color - dynamic and accurate - after proper grayscale calibration ; One of the best at shadow details ; Really excellent black level performance ; Very good remote control ; 1.8:1 zoom lens for very good placement flexibility ;...

Weak out of the box performance, requiring a good grayscale calibration, as the default for Cinema, is way too cool (blue) ; Very limited brightness (one of the least bright) in its brighter modes (Standard and Dynamic) ; Image appears softer - less...

If I had a smaller screen, say 100" diagonal, I could be most happy with this Sony

Not too long ago (June 2007), we checked out this projector's predecessor. In a roundup and the Mitsubishi HC5000, we chose the JVC as the hands-down winner for picture quality, but that wasn't the whole story. The VPL-VW50 was a close second, and one...

The scaling seems improved as well. The professor scene in chapter 2 of The Fifth Element DVD shows a lot of detail. Noise has also been improved. Not that there was too much of it before, but there seems to be less now.
