Cold Winter (PlayStation 2)

A first-person shooter involving terrorists, nuclear weapons, spies, and secret government organizations sounds about as redundant as the title of Sierra's latest title, Cold Winter. However, despite the cliché plot, the presentation and simple but...

Cold Winter - PS2 review at Thunderbolt Games

These days, it seems every new entry into the saturated first-person shooter genre has to have some kind of gimmick in order to try to stand out from the crowd. Whether you're talking about F.E.A.R.'s slow-motion, Half-Life 2's Gravity Gun or Riddick's...

Cold Winter is basically what a James Bond game would be like if Sierra held the license instead of Electronic Arts. While the game is acceptable, it's hardly a polished effort and provides adequate reason to feel good that EA does indeed hold the Bond...

Simple, straightforward shoot-em-up game play ; Environments are nicely interactive, if not exactly useful

Lots of nice ideas fail to be incorporated meaningfully into game play ; So much of this game feels so generic – like a poor man’s James Bond ripoff

Cold Winter opens with a scene of the hero of our piece getting tortured and eventually rescued. Consider it prophetic. Unless you don’t mind fairly bland but straightforward and really graphic shoot-em-ups, Cold Winter soon begins to torture you … but...

Cold Winter trips most spectacularly with it's graphics. They're not bad, they're just not up to par for the rest of the game. Pretty average FPS environments and the guards have a habit of blending in with their surroundings until you're right on top...

but there is virtually no stealth in the game. The enemy is quick to spot you and relentless once they do. And even though one of your earlier missions has you installing spy cameras to protect your safe house, that is about the extent of any gadgetry

Cold Winter Review

It's not pretty, but Cold Winter is quite an enjoyable first person shooter.

Complaints aside, Cold Winter is one of the greatest PlayStation 2 first person shooters ever made. It's got a good story, great controls that feel right, more gore than the NJ Parkway has road kill (and that's quite a bit) and some nice subtle...

Cold Winter Review for the PS2

Grab a jacket.

Detachable limbs; Decent A.I.; Easy and straightforward

No challenge; No rewards; Faulty multiplayer; Generic gameplay

If you've read this far, you can imagine that Cold Winter is not going to get the highest grade from me, either. The game's a breeze, which might appeal to novice gamers and people for whom achievement is more highly-valued than challenge, but doesn't...

Cold Winter

Look out James Bond, there's a new British secret agent running around, but he doesn't have your penchant for vodka martinis, loose women or tuxedos. While you may be saving the world from a nuclear disaster and stopping terrorists, this isn't your...

Unfortunately the game is too linear and the graphics and sound departments did as much wrong as they did right. The multiplayer isn’t much to speak of when compared to other games on the market, but the single player experience offers an intriguing...

Cold Winter on Playstation 2

Cold Winter

Even the audio is a bit underdone, and gunfire doesn’t sound different in enclosed spaces from how it sounds out in the open and helicopters may become nearly inaudible depending on which direction Sterling faces. Overall, Cold Winter is a fun game...

TVG uncovers the new first-person-shooter from Swordfish and VU Games...

Cold Winter is easily the best first-person shooter on PlayStation 2. Whilst the immediate visuals in the game may not be the strongest selling point, the actual depth in gameplay is huge. The enemy AI is highly impressive especially considering the...
