Gradius V

If you are looking for an old school side-scrolling shooter for this past generation of consoles, there are a number of possibilities for you to choose from. But that number is tiny a one. The shooter genre is drying up, some say. Perhaps everything...

Gradius V also comes with the standard set of configuration options: difficulty, lives, etc. At one point, you could also submit your scores on the site Konami had set up, but it appears to be offline now. The value inherent in Gradius V was high at...

The relationship that I share with games that fall into the shooter genre is dysfunctional at best. The way things seem to work is that even on the easiest of difficulties I try my hardest and the game ends up overcoming me with a measly little wave of...

Anyone here besides me play basketball? If you do, you've probably played ball with "That Guy". He's the one who talks a lot of crap and has one move. He'll show up, and if you've never played against him before, he may score with his first move. ...

P.S. For the old schoolers here...the Konami code IS in the game. Hit Start to Pause, and then, pop in Ol' Faithful. Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, L1, R1 for a Speedup, and the full spread of Options, Missile and the Shield.

This is about as good as it gets for shooter fans these days. The enemies are too numerous to count, their unrelenting hail of weapon fire filling the screen in a mishmesh of glowing light. You weave in and out of the chaos, constantly tempting death...

Bullets, lasers, and enemies! They're everywhere, man ; Best graphics ever to grace an old-fashioned shoot-em-up ; Fantastic level design and enemy layout

Not enough variety/customizability in ship type (at least until you beat the game once) ; It's haaaaaaaaard (some of you might want to add this to the "+" section)

This is the best space shoot-em-up since Ikaruga. 'Nuff said.

This is gaming history.

Treasure's managed to make a game that's set in 1992 and 2004 simultaneously, and if there's any justice, they've given 2D shooters a new lease on life. Gradius V is one of the best games I've played this year, and belongs in any former arcade rat's...

Don't we all remember the good old days? The days where we had a little spacecraft that we had to maneuver around the screen trying to watch out for

Anyone who is looking for a trip down memory lane should definitely think about picking up Gradius V as it is very challenging and incredibly addictive. The game does a great job of doing what it set out to do and this is a solid side scrolling shooter.

The backgrounds are works of art that you might find hanging on the walls of NASA. Huge beautiful planets will dominate the screen, star fields, nebulae, and asteroids all come together to create some stunning backdrops for the most intense firefights...

Old school shoot-em-up gameplay with gorgeous new visuals.

Game play has thankfully not been touched from the original series. You go through a variety of levels trying to shoot everything that is bad in front of you, or dodge things you cannot shoot. All the while, the screen is pushing you from left to...

Gradius V

One thing Treasure and Konami could have changed is the linearity of the levels. Perhaps some branching stages will sneak unto Gradius VI, should there ever be one. The levels are all well designed but they're always going to be the same. The ability...

Old school gaming fans rejoice! The king of shooters is back with two-player co-op.

In the end, Gradius V is a top notch game in the shooter genre. You've got multiple options for your ship type, two player co-op, and a good number of levels that you'll never make it to because the game has some good, old fashioned difficulty to it....
