Lumines Plus (PlayStation 2)

The original Lumines was one of the best puzzle games of 2005. Since then it has been repackaged for Xbox Live, received a sequel on the PlayStation Portable, and now has been repackaged yet again for the PlayStation 2. It's still a good puzzle game...

Almost exactly two years ago, the PSP was released in America. At the time, gamers were quite pleased with top-notch launch titles like Ridge Racer and Wipeout Pure, but it was generally agreed that the true “killer app” of the PSP launch was an...

Same great gameplay as two years ago ; Same great presentation as two years ago ; Same great soundtrack as two years ago (and then some)

This is a port of a two year-old game ; Not only that, it’s a bad port, with some very noticeable sound issues

PS2 owners without a PSP or 360 should get this in a heartbeat, but know that you’re getting some really worn-out hand-me-downs. PS2 owners with a PSP or 360 should stick to the games on those platforms.

Still Shinin' Shinin' Shinin'...

Who cares if it's a couple years old? Lumines Plus' gameplay is still as addictive as ever -- especially if you haven't played the game yet.

While most of the music is fantastic stuff, the audio quality leaves a lot to be desired. You likely won't hear it all that much coming out of a TV, but if your PS2 is hooked up to a receiver with some decent speakers, it can disappoint.

Addictive gameplay; new skins; Versus mode in split screen

No new modes or features; the game experience has lost part of its magic

Lumines Plus Review

Outstanding Mizuguchi-fueled puzzle love for $20.

Like the previous releases, Lumines Plus builds upon a basic principle and then surrounds itself with a stylish interface. The game consists of putting together similarly colored squares from pieces that fall to the ground. A glowing bar works its...

Lumines Plus also includes a few extra modes (most of which were present in the PSP version) to keep the game going. They include timed rounds, Single Skin Mode (if you just love one skin or if you feel the need to practice a certain skin) and Puzzle...

Lumines Plus PlayStation 2 Review

Addictive gameplay, but ignore the plus.

Lumines was a really gripping puzzle game on the PSP, and it hasn't changed on its trip to the PS2. That's largely the problem. With a sequel already released on the portable console with a bevy of new features, it's a shame that Lumines Plus couldn't...
