Mercenaries - PS2 review at Thunderbolt Games

The sub-heading for Mercenaries is ‘Playground of Destruction'. It sums up the game nicely; if you crave wanton destruction then you will probably be in your element playing this. On the other hand, those of you hoping for a good war-based alternative...

Mercenaries Review for the PS2

Killing in the name of...

Huge, free-roaming area; Tons of weapons and vehicles; Many ways to get the job done; Lots of unlockables

Some control issues; Glitchy A.I.; No multiplayer

What they don't give you, however, is any way to play with others. There is no online play at all, nor is there a co-op mode. The faction breakdown seems tailor-made for multiplayer; it's a shame they didn't see fit to include it.

Mercenaries on Playstation 2

Maybe Not In/Destructible?

In the end, a pared-down multi-player extravaganza does not a great single-player experience make. This game has a lot of good things going for it, but they exist in departments that ultimately don't matter. If you have never played a Pandemic game...

Mercenaries - ps2

, adds tracks with serious tones of military action, but nothing too overwhelming. The sound effects are crisp and diverse, although the over abundance of machine gun fire does sound a bit weak and unrealistic. For instance, in the classic Day of...

Blowing stuff up has never been as fun as it is in Pandemic's gem.

Awesome airstrikes allow you to destroy virtually anything; excellent graphics; good sense of humor; strong musical score and sound

Multiplayer would have been a nice addition; AI can be perplexing at times; animation is not as smooth as Xbox version

Mercenaries review

Most people see Lucas Arts as primarily a Star Wars company. While they release a lot of titles, a majority of them are just that. Most games outside the Star Wars license really aren’t seen as great games. Armed & Dangerous was fun, but it was...

Once you find the Deck of 52, there isn’t much else to do. Sure, there are three characters to choose from at the beginning, but they don’t have their own set of missions. The standard game can be completed in about 12-15 hours if you...

Mercenaries (PS2) review

Life ain't nothing but bitches and money. And explosions that look like a good lit fart.

What makes you drool as if you’re about to take a jaw-busting bite into a huge WAR sandwich soon dries you up when you realise that the actual combat lacks any real, well, bite. There are excellent physics on show, but that alone just doesn’t make for...

Why even bother making it????

Mercenaries 1 for the Playstation 2 has got to be one of my all-time favorite video games. So naturally, when the sequel, World In Flames, was released I was very excited. I bought a copy of it in advance so that I could have it the very day it came...

sort of fun, lots of weapons, explosions, etc

Nothing like the better PS3 version. Missing weapons, missions, vehicles, etc

Product Specifications

Mercenaries is a revolutionary, 3rd person action-shooter game set in the near future and inspired by real world events. On the eve of a historic reunification of North and South Korea, a ruthless general stages a military coup to take control of North Korea and threatens the world with nuclear war. The international community launches a global task force to stabilize the region. However, when diplomatic efforts collapse and the region descends into anarchy they announce a one hundred million dollar bounty on the North Korean general and his top military and scientific advisors. The targets are identified in a "most wanted" list in the form of a 52-card deck of playing cards. As one of the top operatives for a private mercenaries company called Executive Operations, you have been called in to collect on these bounties.
