Need for Speed: Underground 2

Improved driving and a huge city take a back seat to superb customisation

Need for Speed Underground 2

The underground has never been so enticing.

Everything from the first game has been done better, cleaner and with more emphasis, but the free-roaming city is a double-edged sword, offering a sprawling metropolis to navigate, but a bit too much travelling in some spots.

TVG gets into its Chav-mobile and drools at the prospect of driving a suped-up NfSU2 motor...

NFSU2 is a game that has successfully unleashed the hidden chav in us here in TVG Towers. Its immense thrills and spills through the open-ended city of Bayview is exhilarating, and the culture that is emerging is created in the game to great effect. A...

Another Need for Speed game. Another winner!

NFS Underground 2 does one more thing exceptionally well; give the gamer plenty of bang for their buck. If 8 different game play modes wasn't enough; Circuit, Drag, Drift, Sprint, Street X, Downhill Drift, Outrun, and Underground Racing League, you...

Staying with the pack.

Several interesting race types; Lots of customization; Explore the big city

And just waste time driving; Twitchy A.I.; More ads than a NASCAR race

I hope you don't mind being blitzkrieged with ads, because NFSU2 is thick with sponsorships. Some of them make perfect sense (BilsteinShocks and Auto Zone, for example), but ads for restaurants and financial planninggroups takes the product placement...

Need for Speed Underground 2

The sequel to last year's best selling title is upon us. Does it deliver as well as its suprising predecessor?

City-based racing environment is giant and impressive; great Control; excellent race variety; solid online play (especially via Xbox Live); new upgrade systems add value

City often feels empty; events are placed haphazardly; voice acting and story elements are laughable; sense of speed diminished slightly, no custom soundtrack support in Xbox version

In my review of Need for Speed: Underground I had recommended this game to anyone that thought going out to Chino, CA to watch races was a good time. Well, EA took those races and moved them into Los Angeles and it’s immediate suburbs. Need for...

Overall, this game is great. Everything from the first game has been improved and more importantly everything is more fun to play. The city may be a little too large for it’s own good, but using the “World Map feature can solve even...

The import tuner scene has literally exploded into mainstream culture, thanks to the success of movies like The Fast and The Furious. Needless to say, it was only a matter of time before the gaming industry followed suit, producing nitro-infused racing...

Overall, Underground 2 does manage to expand on the street racing culture it worked so hard to embody in the first title. Broadening the racing arenas to include a complete city, the number of race types and vehicles significantly increases the number...

The dialogue of the game is very laughable and almost seems intentional to that extent. It's overcome with the same acting prowess seen in 2 Fast 2 Furious but it's still good fun. The sound design of the game really kicks it up another notch, going...

Need For Speed Underground 2 (PS2) review

Going underground, a very cosy underground.

Underground is at its best when you’re in hot pursuit, or indeed fleeing from a rival racer in a car similarly modded to your own. Sadly, Underground strays from this formula with unnecessary circuit racing that simply can’t compete for thrills and...
