The Mark of Kri (PlayStation 2)

The Mark of Kri does a number of things well, and it introduces some original concepts, but unfortunately the game's design doesn't play to those strengths.

For every evil, there is a greater good, For every innocent, there is a protector, For every legend, there is a hero.

This can be especially bad during fight sequences, where the AI can sometimes stretch believability. For example, I should have no reason to believe that holding the block button can repulse all attacks from all enemies from all sides, especially if...

Overall, the graphics are excellent. The animation is top notch, and it makes for some very fun to watch combat. Rau will smash enemies' faces into walls, decapitate them, and even slaughter their lifeless bodies. Enemies die very smoothly, and spew...

Sony Computer Entertainment America really came out of nowhere with The Mark of Kri, almost literally. Hardly any screenshots were released before the game was; hardly any hype was built up about it; barely any news regarding the game was released....

Overall, this game is very well done, with its own distinct look and style. You can now find many stores selling it fairly cheap, making it tempting for a full out purchase despite its somewhat short playing time.

"Mark of Kri is an ultra-brutal yet still one of the most innovative titles this year."

The Mark of Kri achieves the Holy Grail in the action/adventure genre, by perfectly merging arcade action with sufficient strategy and depth. We loved every moment in the game and found hardly any faults; if you like this type of game then make sure to...

Unlike some of its competitors in the console industry, Sony hasn't exactly had a stellar track record in regard to its first party titles. Microsoft has had Halo, widely considered the best console shooter since Goldeneye, and Nintendo has a slew of...

Overall, The Mark of Kri is an ambitious game that tries to do something different, but ends up being more of a generic beat-‘em-up that really just isn’t that much fun to play. Technically, the game works well, but the effect is basically all...

The best multi-target combat system ever seen in an action game? You'd better friggin' believe it, and there's a story in there, too.

In the end, The Mark of Kri's late-in-the-game stumbles aren't enough to expunge the overall experience; the combat system, storyline, music and effects are too good to be ruined by one bad level. It is a shame, however, to see a game that spends 90%...

Instead of backing up like a clumsy truck, doing three-point turns trying to face your moving enemies and spending most of your frustrated time angrily hack-hack-hacking air while those enemies stab you stupidly in the back, as has been the case in...

Sony's new studio leaves a mark with a creative new take on 3D action.

Interesting battle system, satisfying kills, nice graphics, well-done stealth elements

Short playtime, brain-dead battle camera, weak final level, bland music
