Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria (PlayStation 2)

A storyline based on Norse mythology isn't the only thing that's unusual and original about this tough, complex, and action-packed Japanese role-playing game.

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria - PS2 review at Thunderbolt Games

I'd take Odin, Valkyrie and the magnificence of Valhalla over typical RPG fare any day. Those whiney teens, hapless females and silly demons just can't compete with Norse mythology. Or maybe it's just because I've played way too many RPGs with those...

For my circle of friends in college, there were just some things that could be quoted at any opportunity, and it would work. One of them was Valkyrie Profile. It wasn't just that we all enjoyed it and consequently played it constantly. It wasn't...

I do enjoy quite a bit of Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria. It finally answers so many questions I had about the first game, and I admittedly am looking forward, in five years, to the release of Valkyrie Profile: Hrist. Other fans of the series will likely...

Square-Enix and Tri-Ace unite once again for a final swansong on the PlayStation2...

Highly unique RPG experience ; Plenty of depth to every aspect of the game ; Stunning presentation

Period system has been dropped ; Character development feels diluted ; Atrocious post-battle comments

Valkyrie Profile 2 is a hardcore gamer's game. With 2D gameplay reminiscent of numerous classics from days gone by and a general sense of sophistication and creativity, Square-Enix's latest provides plenty for fans of the original provided you can look...

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria

Long before the PSP re-release, I was there for Enix's original release of Valkyrie Profile on PSone. The title came out after Enix was re-emerging after a long US absence, and had already had success in the US on PSone with Star Ocean: Second Story,...

Eye candy that's good enough to stand alongside Final Fantasy XII and Elder Scrolls Oblivion ; Side-scrolling world brings a breath of “something different” to the table ; While the Einjarhar are deemphasized, VP2 still tells a deeply affecting story

While Silmeria has a great story, the tale would have been more epic had the Einjarhar been fleshed out more ; The series really should consider going full 3D next time out

Hopefully, the game will be sufficiently embraced this time around that we won’t have to wait until the end of the PlayStation 3’s life cycle to enjoy a Valkyrie Profile 3. While Bethesda Softworks is reveling in the success of Elder Scrolls Oblivion...

As far as audio is concerned, much like the original Valkyrie Profile, the music is a blend of epic scores and rocking guitar riffs. Voices are solid and very well done. Where the original suffered from some cheesy lines here and there, Valkyrie...

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria Revie

Silmeria is a unique and interesting Japanese role-playing game worth checking out.

Valkyrie Profile 2 is so different from other Japanese role-playing games that it really deserves a closer look by fans. One of Tri-ACE's strong points is that it creates role-playing games that aren't like every other game out there. You won't see any...

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria

Valkyrie Profile was a major cult classic. It had a unique blend of gameplay, a decent story and one of the best combat systems ever seen in an RPG. However, it was a royal pain in the ass to find copies of, commanding prices in the low to mid $100...

I still can highly recommend this game to any RPG fan, though – after getting used to it, the combat system will be fun (though frustrating at times) and the game will provide an overall rewarding experience. I can’t help but think that tri-ace messed...

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria review for the PS2

Not her best side.

Quick, fun, and smart battle system; Good delivery on an interesting storyline; Lots of items to break off of enemies

That you won't need; Skill building is a guessing game; Linear to a fault; Lacks a lot of features the original had

Most look at crazy people with pitying eyes, quietly saying to themselves, "Dear me, look at that poor thing…coating himself in butter." Others believe they should be studied, cared for, or otherwise handled with some level of political correctness....

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria Review

Square-Enix's Norse mythos-inspired RPG goes above and beyond, delivering an incredible title.

However, there is a curious flaw within Silmeria in that its cutscenes can't be paused. It seems an odd thing to overlook, the ability to skip cutscenes and extended attack animations show that tri-Ace was aware players may not want to repeatedly watch...
