WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 (PlayStation 2)

What SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007 improves isn't necessarily what the series actually needed to improve, but on its own merits, it's still a great wrestling game.

The newest entry in the Smackdown franchise leaves far too much in the locker room to be enjoyable.

Many different match types; huge create a wrestler mode; interesting single player

Collision detection issues; low-quality graphics; game stops occasionally

There are some load times that can be a bit distracting if you are impatient, but the graphics are very impressive for being a PS2 title. Nice character entrances, such as Tripple H’s signature intro, look very realistic, almost as if you were...

Without a doubt, the best SmackDown yet

Better control ; Every returning mode improved ; Stuff to last you 'til next year

Collision detection needs work ; Some AI issues ; Lots of loading screens

Is SM vs. RAW 07 for the PS2 as good as its XBOX 360 counterpart?

Editor's note: I couldn't find any decent screens for the PS2 version of the game. We decided to run the review without any rather than have crappy cropped screens which was all that was available.

Career mode is finally what it should have been all along ; Less button-mashing, more analog-stick-based controls

GM mode still needs major surgery ; The graphics still have terrible collision-detection and are not much different from last year’s game ; The load times eventually made the game NOT EVEN WORK on my PS2 ; Where’s ECW? ECW! ECW! ECW! ECW

The career mode finally last longer than a season, but GM mode still needs a major overhaul; too bad load times nearly broke my PS2! This one’s dodgy, folks, on a technical level, even if the career mode is an artistic milestone!

The latest title in the SmackDown series isn't the giant leap that its predecessor was, but it's got enough to keep wrestling fans happy.

Right-analog grappling controls well; environmental hotspots spice up gameplay; online matchmaking is better than before; visually stellar

Game engine is still showing its age; Xbox Live gameplay has some speed bumps, while PS2 has worse lag issues, especially at the beginning of matches

Another interesting addition for players to explore is the increased interaction with fans. Encouraging players to take the action into the stands, Yuke's has set up little quirks and intricacies. Members of the crowd will pat you on your back, hold up...
