Aliens: Colonial Marines Review: No Hope Left

Developer Gearbox's Alien FPS will make you scream for all the wrong reasons.

About an hour into Aliens: Colonial Marines, it's hard to find a reason to keep playing. At least that's exactly how I felt during my solo campaign run. Xenomorphs -- the creepy, black-suited extraterrestrials from the Hollywood films -- often slipped...

Aliens: Colonial Marines Review

It has been a long time since I laughed this hard when playing a game. I'm not referring to the kind of laughter that arises from genuine mirth, nor am I referring to the kind of laughter that makes one feel all warm and toasty inside. I'm talking...

The Ugly: “Oh look, another alien to shoot. …and I really, really don’t give a sh**.”

Aliens: Colonial Marines - PS3

We have all seen how much critics and game owners have panned this as the biggest disappointment in gaming so far this year. Personally I had been waiting for this game since it was originally announced by another studio in 2002.

4 player co-op was awesome, perfectly captured Aliens atmosphere, great music, unbelievable authentic sound, original voice actors, fun multiplayer modes

AI is only worth on the last few levels with ultimate bad-ass mode, intolerable ending, dated graphics for FPS genre

Aliens: Colonial Marines Review

Aliens: Colonial Marines has been some six years in the making. Is this more Borderlands from Gearbox, or more Duke Nukem Forever?

Aliens: Colonial Marines" is a crushing disappointment, but it isn’t the absolute travesty that the media have made it out to be. I’m not sure if this is as a result of the week one patch, but I didn’t experience any of the bugs or glitches that seem...

Aliens: Colonial Marines Review

With all the flaws in Colonial Marines it's easy to discard it as a failure, but for all its glitches, poor visuals and less-than-pristine controls, there is still fun to be had in this shoot-by-the-numbers sci-fi title...

It’s not game over for the Alien franchise; Love seeing the ammo counter run down on the pulse rifle; Fun crawling around as an alien

The visuals and repetitive environments; The too-much-of-a-reach story twist; Shooting down iron-sights; NPCs don’t die unless it’s scripted; In the future Marines still say ‘copaceticâ

Aliens: Colonial Marines review: Or how to waste a great licence

Aliens are like Superman. You can't make a game about them without compromising the very thing that makes them so powerful. So the Man of Steel has a health bar and can be beaten up by Sub-Zero, and xenomorphs - described by Ash in Alien as a 'perfect...

Fun multiplayer ; Exploring locations from the films ; Meaty weapons

Flat, repetitive combat ; The aliens aren't even slightly scary ; Weak story, terrible dialogue

Aliens: Colonial Marines review – this time it’s war

James Cameron's classic action horror gets an interactive sequel by the creators of Borderlands, but how soon will you want it to be game over, man?

Great attention to detail by a team that clearly loves the original movie. Some effective scares and a welcome range of co-op and competitive multiplayer options

The gunplay is mediocre, the artificial intelligence weak, and the design linear and repetitive. Few gameplay innovations and underneath the atmospheric lighting the graphics aren’t very good

The whole idea was probably doomed from the start but this is a disappointingly slipshod effort, with a story campaign that somehow feels more old-fashioned than the decades-old movie it’s based on.
