Dialogue system ; Branching plotlines

Sloppy visuals ; Glitches and bugs ; Poor cover mechanics ; Sporadic camera

Alpha Protocol is the kind of game that comes along once a generation. Some gamers will adore it, others will loathe it, but most will respect it. The culmination of pieces that Obsidian has put together creates a game that stands head and shoulders...

Alpha Protocol

On Alpha Protocol's box, it says "THE ESPIONAGE RPG". If that sounds good to you, then this is a game you should definitely buy, since it's probably the most spy-like spy game yet made and a lot of fun with it.

With presentation-heavy franchises like the Splinter Cell series, it's probably tough for a new spy thriller to break through and become wildly popular. Obsidian is attempting to do that with their action RPG-style title Alpha Protocol. Straight of a...

Alpha Protocol

Obsidian made many bold claims about Alpha Protocol before its release. They claimed it would be the first espionage-based action RPG, that choice would matter to the way the story unfolded, that you could choose multiple ways to beat each mission,...

Choices entirely change the game; Story is intriguing

Erratic AI; Lackluster combat; Plays worse than the sum of its parts

Alpha Protocol (Xbox 360) Review

While it boasts a good story and terrific choices in your actions and conversations, the poor AI, buggy combat and flat visuals mar what could have been a great RPG.

For all its promise, Alpha Protocol fails to live up to what it could have been. That's frustrating when you consider how much it gets right. The conversation pieces are the best parts, making you think of your actions in advance to get the best...

Alpha Protocol Review for the XBOX360

I Am The Alpha and The Omega and Everything In Between.

Strong, decision-based scriptwriting; Simple, timed dialogue windows; Dynamic voice-work; Challenging, well-interpreted mini-games; Immersive misé-en-scene

but a lot of graphical hiccups; Levels are linear to a fault; Exploitable AI; Unpolished stealth and cover systems; Choppy, odd animations

Alpha Protocol Review:

Alpha Protocol Review Xbox 360. With creative developers Obsidian at the helm of the game that has been billed as a spy role playing game (a first if there ever was one). Alpha Protocol aims to do something familiar but different. Taking aspect...

Alpha Protocol is actually a very good game deep down, but perhaps a little too ambitious in its execution. There are some genuinely great ideas on offer here such as the choices you make having an effect on future events, the gameplay changing skills...

Alpha Protocol Review

I was going in totally blind, having no idea what to expect from a game created by developer Obsidian Entertainment. Most titles developed by the studio have been good, but each has come short in being an outstanding title. Alpha Protocol unfortunately...

You’ll also encounter 3 minigames that once again, becoming intensely monotonous after having attempted each more than a handful of times. The minigames are associated with deactivating alarms, cracking locks and hacking electronics. Each is fairly...

There's much more worth mentioning here - the lobotomized AI, the nonexistent collision detection, the bare-minimum sound design, and cliché characterizations - that make Alpha Protocol feel like a four-year old game. Not even a bug-free release or...

Alpha Protocol

Cult games are a weird phenomenon in the games industry. It's that breed of game that won't necessarily sell amazingly well or even score highly in terms of a Metacritic score, but they're games that offer something so fresh and so original, that they...

Buried beneath the poor shooter mechanics, Alpha Protocol does exactly what it says on the box, and that's make choice your weapon. With a great dialogue mechanic and more choice than your local Tesco megastore, the title is ultimately a letdown in...
