Dead Island (PlayStation 3)

From a distance, Banoi looks like a holidaymaker's paradise: a tropical island in a sparkling blue ocean, home to a luxury beach resort. Get closer, though, and you'll spot blood on the sand (and on the walls, and in the swimming pools). Zombies are...

Dead Island is not what I had originally expected. Based on my considerable experience with zombie games, I was expecting something more akin to Left 4 Dead combined with Dead Rising than what it actually was. I suppose the original trailer should have...

Dead Island Review

Upon seeing the first trailer for Dead Island back in 2007, I couldn't help but be excited for the title. At that point in time, the “zombie” phenomenon had yet to be as widely abused as it is today. The initial trailer stated that the game was set to...

If there’s one thing that I’ve learned with Dead Island, it’s that talking about the game simply doesn’t do it justice. It’s not perfect, doesn’t have a great story, but I’ll be damned if it’s not just fun. If you’re looking for a title to play with...

The walking dead - we've seen it all before; they waltz on over and we fill them with an assortment of lead. Next! In recent years this old chestnut has choked the market to death, with little new being brought to the table due to the high success of...

Gone are the stereotypical grays and browns that plague most zombie shooters in favor of the tropical and luscious isle of Banoi, which looks breathtaking at times. There are some weird animations, but the voice acting more than makes up for those.

In a stall since the 1.3.0 update, but I'm hoping the new trainer will put me back into the game again when it becomes available.

You're on Banoi, an island paradise off the coast of Papua New Guinea. You're on the job so you can't enjoy the beaches, the tropical climate and whatever else this pacific island promises. So you don't want to be here, not like this, going through one...

Dead Island Review

Much like a zombie, Dead Island is ugly on the outside but? wait this analogy makes no sense

Interesting open world, beautiful locations, amazing sense of dread and tension, different take on zombie games

Bugs, overly difficult at times, wonky interface

Dead Island PS3 review: bugs aside, it's brain-dead fun

Explore the endless beaches, observe the native fauna, and bash the locals' heads with a pipe wrench before they disembowel you.

Ultimately, Dead Island is fun and deserves to be played, but I recommend waiting a bit until the game is patched into a more stable state. Visual gaffs are one thing, but problems with auto-save that have the publisher recommending you avoid...

Dead Island

This unambitious but serviceable frankengame was clearly cobbled together from scavenged parts.

Narratively, Dead Island is unambitious. There’s no attempt at satire, commentary, or quirk. The plot, mostly communicated through quest-givers, is straight-faced as a straight-to-cable horror flick, but like the rest of the game, it’s serviceable....

Dead Island Review

Dead Island is the type of game that epitomizes the “close, but not quite” label. On the one hand, there's a lot to like. The island is large and filled with a surprising amount of variety for an isolated paradise location, the action is almost always...

The Ugly: There's ugly everywhere. Just start chopping.
