Final Fantasy XIII-2- PS3

By (gamepositive.com) Read the full review

New players may find all the back story and references from XIII a bit confusing, however with the inclusion of a "beginner's primer" in the menu, there's no reason why longtime fans of the series as well as complete newcomers won't get a brilliant...

Final Fantasy XIII-2- PS3

There are small improvements in minor places, but Final Fantasy XIII-2 still misses the mark by far with a perplexing plot and new mechanics which do more to alienate than evolve the flaking series.

It's true that if Final Fantasy XIII was two steps back for the series, then XIII-2 is one step forward. There is much to appreciate in this sequel: with more than 35 hours of gameplay in the main quest arc alone, with multiple endings to discover and...

Final Fantasy XIII-2 (PlayStation 3)

Final Fantasy XIII-2's box art features the indomitable Lightning, looking strong and feminine in her tough-as-nails armor and flowing skirt of feathers. You remember Lightning, of course: she spent the majority of Final Fantasy XIII trying to release...

But more importantly, this unbound narrative allows the designers to stretch their creative legs. Players jump from Blade Runner dystopias to verdant monster lairs atop overgrown trees. A highpoint finds Serah and Noel at the edge of reality, where an...

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Review

By Drew "Frustrated Fury" Leachman (ztgamedomain.com)

I'm one of those guys who actually liked Final Fantasy XIII. So, sue me. I thought changing up the style and offering a different take on the FF universe was a breath of fresh air. Don't get me wrong...

Great combat system ; Wonderful presentation ; Good voice acting ; Beautiful visuals ; Tons to do and explore

Story drags at times ; Confusion on where to go next may pop up

I’m one of those guys who actually liked Final Fantasy XIII. So, sue me. I thought changing up the style and offering a different take on the FF universe was a breath of fresh air. Don’t get me wrong, I love previous FF games as well. This is why I...

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Xbox 360, PS3 Review: a time traveling cinematic event

By Brandon Hofer (gamingtarget.com)

The latest Final Fantasy epic from Square Enix is here. Brandon reviews this cinematic, time-traveling Japanese RPG.

Overall, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a solid title. I enjoyed the story (even though it was a bit hard to follow at times) and it was pretty cool seeing how locations varied with each different time period. I loved the battle system in Final Fantasy XIII...

It was nice being able to freely explore different locations and finding all of the collectibles off the beaten path. If you weren’t a fan of Final Fantasy XIII but you are a Final Fantasy fan in general I would definitely recommend that you give this...

Final Fantasy XIII-2

By Russell Garbutt (game-over.com)

Ever sinceFinal Fantasy VII was released in North America in 1997, the series has become the archetype of what every RPG should be. This reputation carried across many releases, and when Squaresoft (which subsequently became Square Enix) announced...

The gameplay is practically unchanged from FFXIII. There is a creature in the place of a third human AI, and the Eidolon summons are gone. If you liked the revamped battle system in FFXIII, then you will like it here as well. If you did not...

Final Fantasy XIII-2

By Joe Sinicki (cheathappens.com)

The use interface and menu system is cool and slick, and the visuals are crisp, clear and at times awe inspiring, if not predictable. The game features a respectable amount of recorded dialogue, but a lot of it comes off as cheesy and overdone.

I'd love to have a cheat for quick leveling up, as it would make it easier to defeat some of the bosses easier. A Pokemon style listing of where to find all of the game's monsters would also be a cool tool to have.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Review

By Kevin VanOrd (gamespot.com)

Final Fantasy XIII-2 doesn't capture Lightning in a bottle, but it's still a fun and heartfelt role-playing adventure.

Monster collection is fun and addictive ; Multiple heartfelt moments combine story and gameplay in effective ways ; Caius is a fantastic villain ; Impressive, varied visual design

The best characters were sidelined in favor of less interesting ones ; Multiple sequences bog down the pace ; Main story is relatively easy and short

And so the two set out on a journey across time, hopping from one level to another, with each one representing a different place or time. The two make a blandly pleasant team, and apart from a third slot designated for voiceless monsters (more on that...

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Preview

By Ben Dutka (psxextreme.com)

So I played the Final Fantasy XIII-2 demo today. …it's difficult to select a starting position. On the one hand, I don't mind at all that it stayed very much like its predecessor because I maintain that FFXIII was a great game. On the other hand, I...

Basically, it’s FFXIII with a few small additions and one big new feature in the monster collection. The Paradigm Shifts seem faster but other than that, those who enjoyed FFXIII should be able to dive right in with little problem. I just don’t know if...

Despite it’s poor pacing during the second act and its less than satisfying end, Final Fantasy XIII-2 can hold its head up high as a large improvement over its predecessor in the places where it counts. The story is more focused and genuinely touching,...

I’d whole heartedly recommend this to anyone who enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII, it’s haters however will find nothing to like here, and anyone who has no affiliation with the series will be lost cluelessly in its mechanics and deep and slightly confusing...
