God of War: Ascension

Kratos can't seem to keep himself out of trouble when it comes to seeking vengeance. He's picked fights with the likes of Ares, Hades, Poseidon and even Zeus himself. He's become a major thorn in the side of the Gods. At the end of God of War III I...

God of War: Ascension Review

Kratos returns to the beginning of this epic franchise.

God of War: Ascension may not answer the longstanding questions we all have about the aftermath of God of War III, but I think this is one of the best things to happen to the series. Instead of watching Kratos become less and less mortal, we are...

God of War: Ascension (PS3) Review

The most brutal feud this side of the PlayStation continues with the war-tested Kratos returning to action in God of War: Ascension.

Although a bit overused, great use of scale ; Brutal as ever. Kratos is still a bad-ass ; Crisp production ; Small improvements added to the combat ; Wild monsters and level design ; If its your thing, God of War multiplayer

We’ve been here before and it’s getting a little bland ; Zoomed out gameplay turns into a guessing game ; Weak puzzles and platforming sections ; Multiplayer feels ultimately unnecessary ; Ultimately forgettable once you’re done

Before diving into the new God of War, you have to take a look at your own expectations. If you expect Ascension to be the next evolution in the series, you’re going to be disappointed. In basics, Ascension is good, however when stacked up to the other...

God of War: Ascension Review

I feel quite torn. It isn’t a bad game, not by a long shot, but you’ll feel the main plot is sorely lacking something, which is something I never thought I’d say about God of War.

Looks sextacular; Unbelievable sense of scope; Doppelgangery powers ; Dodging finishers; Surprisingly fun multiplayer

Trials of Archimedes; Difficulty spikes and crazy respawns; Softer Kratos; Crappy platforming; Less fluid combat

God Of War: Ascension review – gore blimey

One of the last exclusives for the PlayStation 3 also has some of the best graphics on the system. But does the gameplay keep up with the visuals?

A noticeably improved combat system and more interesting story. Multiplayer is substantial, innovative, and imaginative. Fantastic graphics

The core campaign experience is the same as it’s always been. Occasional camera problems and overuse of QTEs. The level of gore often seems tasteless and unnecessary

Kratos may not be gaming’s most charismatic protagonist but it turns out he has a surprising knack for multiplayer as well as single-player action, in one of the best-looking games on the PlayStation 3.

God of War: Ascension review: Slick, brutal, but a series treading water

That menu screen twang of scraping metal; the grandiose shifting battle-grounds and improbable ancient architecture; the lift-based combat scenes; the QTE's, the blood, the boobs - this is definitely a God of War game. And, for better or worse,

Near unparalleled visuals and animation ; Guts-spilling, brain-carving gore ; Brutal, time-refined combat ; Multiplayer brings some interesting ideas

but is never anything more than solid ; An inessential story, a kinder Kratos ; Few new combat mechanics ; Lack of big-scale Titan gameplay
