Madden NFL 09 (PS3)

Madden NFL 09 offers just enough to fans to warrant a purchase. Although meager, the new additions do help the game feel like it's worth the price of admission.

The Backtrack feature wisely allows players to see their mistakes; the best presentation of this generation of consoles; Cris Collinsworth is a great announcer

Online plays upgrades are still missing key aspects; the Madden IQ is nearly pointless; none of the modes have been substantially upgraded

This 20th anniversary edition of John Madden Football takes the series close to the goal line but can't quite punch it in.

Great visuals; 32-player online leagues; highly adaptable AI

Not a giant leap forward for the franchise; numerous AI bugs

Right from the very moment Madden 09 soars into life with a typically rousing American telly intro theme, you pretty much know what you're in for. Arguably the biggest feather in EA's vast cap, the NFL series of games has gradually been tweaked and...

Casual gamers and newcomers will finally feel comfortable jumping into the Madden fray ; The graphics are incredible ; Madden Moments are perfect

The announcers are horrid ; Online play still features lag

Madden 09, EA Sports' 20th installment of the franchise, has proven that the series only gets better with age. The publisher has finally outdone itself by releasing the premiere football title of this generation thus far.

After two decades, countless editions and millions of sales, it's encouraging to see gaming behemoth EA working hard to welcome new players into the Madden fold, yet still gifting sports fans with the deepest American football simulation on the planet.
