2K Sports ups the ante with their latest b-ball title. After several years of being kings of the hardwood, the NBA 2k series has proven itself the champion as it...

Great visuals and animation ; Mostly solid on court gameplay ; Incredibly deep Association mode

Awkward post play ; Cumbersome menu system

2k has had the best basketball game for years now.

Everything about NBA 2K9 blows NBA Live 09 out of the water. If you're a basketball fan, NBA 2K9 is the game to get this season.

From the opening tip until the buzzer sounds, 2K's NBA franchise is a slam dunk.

Outstanding looks and gameplay; lockdown defense changed for better; new level of crowd excitement and energy; excellent franchise mode

NBA Blacktop doesn't measure up; highlight segments a bit choppy; TV presentation is disappointing

Dazzling visuals, smooth gameplay, and a high basketball IQ add up to a seriously fun experience

Tremendous atmosphere ; Signature shot styles ; Silky-smooth action

Cumbersome play-calling ; Shot Stick can be tough ; Mediocre in-game commentary

NBA 2K9 is the closest thing yet we’ve seen to a total hoops package. Other than a few minor quibbles – the visuals get choppy during the cutscenes between play and the Blacktop mode is a throwaway collection of uninteresting minigames – we’re utterly...

EA Sports and 2K Sports have become bitter rivals since 2K joined the craziness that is basketball video gaming a few years back. The last few years have seen 2K Sports at the top of the leaderboard, achieving unanimously higher ratings than EA's NBA...

NBA 2K9 trails NBA Live 09 in the visuals and presentation department, but it makes up for this shortcoming by whooping Live in the gameplay department. NBA 2K is still the standard for basketball gameplay, and if you're wondering which title to go...

As every basketball gamer aficionado will tell you: if you want the real thing, get to the program and buy a basketball game from the NBA 2K series. Even if last year's game wasn't as good as 2K6 and 2K7, 2K is definitely back on the track with NBA...

Excellent gameplay mechanics ; Great textures, player models and lighting ; Living rosters and 5 vs. 5 online are great additions ; New and smooth signature player animations ; Crowd and arena ambiance is great ; Solid overall presentation ; Basketball...

Controls can be daunting for the less experienced or newcomers to the franchise ; Commentary is good but not great ; The game has been speed up and feels weird ; Lag and connection drops during 5 vs. 5 Online Team Play

The most important factor in the evaluation of a game. It identifies the lifespan of the game and the fun of coming back again and again

NBA 2K9's game is strong, but most of its new features won't be appreciated by the average Joe.

Gameplay is excellent ; Fewer missed layups this year ; Living rosters provide up-to-the-minute statistical changes ; Announcers do a nice job calling and analyzing the action ; Signature player animations look great

Very few noteworthy additions ; Free throws are still harder than they should be ; Controls are too complex ; Play-calling and ads sometimes obscure gameplay
