NHL 14 Review

There's nothing glaringly wrong with EA's suite of sports games this year. In fact, for the most part, they're as solid as ever. It's just that it seems as if the developers are sort of limping into the new generation, and they're having difficulty...

NHL 14

Better fights, bigger hits, and the simplified, stripped back NHL 94 Anniversary Mode. Thank you Canada.

In doing a bit of background research I was reminded of Claude Lemieux – one of Canada’s not-so-secret shames. A hockey player so dirty he single handedly started the Avalanche-Red Wings feud. So annoying he would drink out of opposing goalies water...

NHL 14 (Xbox 360 / PS3) Review

In textbook timing EA Sports annual edition of NHL has been released. Boasting a renounced vigor to the physical game, NHL 14 is great way to kick off the upcoming hockey season.

Everyone loves bigger hits, updated collision physics ; Old school love with the NHL ’94 anniversary mode ; New organic feeling fighting mechanics

New deke move requires some fancy hands ; Live the Life could be made more appealing ; New fighting system is still clumsy ; A.I. is not always the sharpest

NHL 14 bullies its way on the ice with some retro sheen and big hits. Worth the upgrade for those who put serious time into their game, and not so much if you’ve been getting by with an older copy of NHL. It simply comes down to how much you love the...

NHL 14 adds little of note to NHL 13 aside from better hitting, more fighting, and a disappointing NHL 94 retro mode.

Still plays a great game of hockey ; Great overall skating and shooting physics make for on-ice realism ; Powerhouse hitting with the new collision detection

Live the Life is unnecessarily bland ; Lame NHL 94 mode ; AI remains noticeably inconsistent

Gameplay changes are also very slight in NHL 14. This is the second year of EA Sports' newest physics engine, but the action on the ice isn't noticeably smoother this time out. Granted, the skating physics are still very good. Momentum continues to be...
