Sleeping Dogs Review

Sleeping Dogs didn't have an easy birth. It started life as the next instalment in the True Crime series, but after stunted growth, Activision aborted the project. Square Enix adopted the title, renamed it, and took over development duties. A risky...

Combat is brutal and flows brilliantly.

Whether you are singing karaoke or smashing in gangsters faces Sleeping Dogs is one hell of a time. It’s been a little while since there’s been a big open world game and even with Sleeping Dogs crazy development cycle the game delivers a unique combat...

Dude, Sleeping Dogs is like…way fun. See, that's what happens when you sit for ten minutes, desperately and vainly trying to come up with a really great opening line. All that happens is you reflect on your play time and ultimately, one reaction tends...

There is Grand Theft Auto and then there is everything else. Sure, Assassin's Creed and inFAMOUS do traversal better and Saint's Row has more varied missions, but no one excels at world building in the way Rockstar does. From the breakthrough hit of...

Between its fantastic combat, shooting, presentation, storytelling, and RPG elements, Sleeping Dogs has just raised the demands for what it'd take for GTAV to get the throne back. Good luck, Rockstar.

Sleeping Dogs is one of 2012's biggest surprises. And when I say surprises, I mean that in the best way possible.

I’m not sure why more people aren’t paying attention to Sleeping Dogs, but now that the game’s out, hopefully you won't make the same mistake. Sleeping Dogs did things that wowed me from the moment I started playing, and it never really stopped. A few...

Why don't you have a pork bun in your hand?!

Appreciate the Cantonese (and the swearing); Decent cast of characters; Solid melee combat, adequate gunplay; Visually impressive open world of Hong Kong; Plenty of side tasks and missions; Social Hub, including mission replay

but the transitions into English are awkward; ...despite lack of character depth; No difficulty setting; Few game-freezing glitches

On a purely personal gripe, I despise the game's attempt to dumb down Hong Kong mahjong into its variation of mahjong poker, which is essentially Yahtzee and as far as I'm concerned should have been played with mahjong dice instead of tiles anyway. If...

Developer United Front Games brings slightly more polish to the open-world crime drama.

Step away after a few hours of playing the Hong Kong action-thriller Sleeping Dogs, and you start to realize a few things. First, that developer United Front Games understands the importance of a world filled with detail that doesn't overburden the...

Varied missions, hard-hitting melee combat, and a captivating setting make Sleeping Dogs an enjoyable escapade.

Savage melee combat ; Alluring atmosphere ; Fun driving and gunplay ; Varied missions ; Numerous collectibles to hunt down and other enjoyable diversions

Unattractive character models and environmental textures

Originally planned to be True Crime: Hong Kong, Sleeping Dogs (SD) went through a change in publishers from Eidos to Square-Enix and with that came a change from the title being True Crime: Hong Kong to what it is now. Ultimately, the change in name is...

Visually, Sleeping Dogs is a mixed bag. In really shines at night ? when you can see rain-slicked jackets, and the beautiful shine of a rain-soaked street. The nightlife also looks amazing then given all the neon on the buildings. The daytime look is...
