The Golden Compass

It's not the worst game based on a movie, but it's close.

The Daemon and the Alethiometer gameplay add little excitement to a tedious game

Slow and repetitive gameplay; bad voice acting and cut-scene audio; no camera control

The Golden Compass

Based on Philip Pullman's best-selling novel and New Line Cinema's theatrical interpretation, The Golden Compass follows the story of 11-year-old Lyra Belacqua, who leaves behind the familiar trappings of her boarding school to embark on an epic adventure

The Golden Compass Review

It's not often in the life of a gamer that he comes across a title that not only impresses him but also captivates him completely. Golden Compass isn't one of those titles. That's not exactly surprising considering it is a movie to game adaptation. We...

Lyra's demon is the highlight of the action

Ridiculously simplistic gameplay ; Flawed mechanics ; Visual tearing is abundant

If the PS3 had a recycling bin, this would offer the perfect fit. Avoid it regardless whether or not you are a fan of the movie.

The Golden Compass

Following the successful film adaptation of the Harry Potter books, producers quickly turned their attention to other children's fantasy novels in a bid to follow the dollar signs. They didn't have to look far to find the highly popular His Dark...

Good adaptation, with easy to use controls ; Nice details (ice makes you slide around) ; Good voice work from Richards ; Makes you use your head ; You can use the alethiometer

Dodgy accents for supporting characters ; Younger kids might struggle with harder puzzles

The Golden Compass strikes just the right balance between youthful arctic adventure and strategy puzzle solver. Fans of the book will probably be much happier with the game compared to the film.

The Golden Compass for PS3 Fails to Wow Me. (Around Epinions In 80 Days Entry#8)

I love bargain hunting. I suppose that a fair amount of people out there just love to spend their money, but not me, I like to find a deal. Not too very long ago, my husband purchased for us a Playstation Three (PS3), which we intended to mostly use ...

decent graphics and voice-overs, easy controls, keeps with the storyline

no room to really play, beats player over the head with simplistic and boring tasks

It's Paradise For Reckless Driving - Burnout Paradise

It seems that someone flipped the switch on EA's two major racing franchises. After a few years of open-world adventures, Need for Speed Pro Street took the series back to menu-driven progression. On the other hand, Burnout, a stubborn holdover of the ...

Large, but not too large open world, crazy sense of speed

Some dull new modes, no in-race restart option, some cars are uncontrollable by humans

Take Me Down To The Paradise City...

Despite negative reviews (I'm looking at you, jrhigh34) this is really an awesome game. Awesome enough to have won the "Best Racing Game" award of 2007, and to get a couple "Editor's Choice" reviews, from the Playstation Magazine, Gamepro, and probably...

Awesome cars, graphics, sound (especially in HDMI), and just plain fun

No restart event option, but that's probably because it has no menus

The old game blazes a new trail, with barely a wrong turn on the way

The first thing that hits you is how sprawling Paradise’s map seems. Then you realise you can drive from one end to the other in only about four minutes, and around its entire circumference in about ten, and it’s a little disheartening. But then you ...

NEW GAME GREAT GRPHICS

SLOW PACE GAME EASY

More of a kiddies game

This game is definatley more for the kids than adults. I have read the books but yet to see the film which I have been told barely relates to the books. The game is good, the graphics aren't good considering all PS3 games are meant to have amazing...

The Golden Disaster

The graphics are nowhere near good enough, the game is not challenging enough. The only saving grace is the game's originality. Only play if you are a big fan of the franchise.
