Time Crisis 4 (PlayStation 3)

A bland first-person shooter mode does little to freshen up the stale taste of this aging light-gun series.

You're Better off Pumping Quarters into the Standup Arcade

Unfortunately, this is not the game I had hoped it would be. I had visions of a multiplayer shooter that I would be able to share with my buddies. That's not the case. In fact, I'll be placing my copy of Time Crisis 4 and Guncon 3 controllers on Ebay...

I'm a fan of light gun games and I have killed more than our share of generic bad guys in Time Crisis 4, Ghost Squad, and House of the Dead in the arcade so I was a bit intrigued when the boxed copy of Time Crisis 4 showed up on my doorstep. I realized...

If you really love Time Crisis 4 or light gun games and have some money to burn then Time Crisis 4 is right up your alley. If you don't fall into those two categories then you should spend your money someplace else.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Quick Take: If you buy just one first-person-shooter this year, it had better be Call of Duty 4.

Fun in arcade mode ; Guncon feels natural ; Good placement of analog sticks on Guncon

FPS-segments are awful ; Guncon doesn't work in PS3 Main Menu ; Calibration not precise ; No aiming reticule

Now, additional developers like Namco Bandai are tapping into the infrared trend, featured in their first offering using the technology exclusive to Playstation 3, Time Crisis 4. A port of the popular arcade game, Time Crisis 4 comes with a pack-in...

The best game that uses the Guncon 3 controller! Oh it's also the only game.

Overall Time Crisis 4 is a fun shooting game but it's pretty tough to recommend at a $90 price point, especially since a 2nd player on the same console would require a second gun that you can't purchase at this time. The mission mode is a nice...

Time Crisis 4

Sometimes I wonder about the future of gaming, worrying in the dead of night what the innovations of today spell for the critic of tomorrow. Will the rising cost of games eventually see a divide between the elite ultra-rich that can afford a...

Visual polish that the others in the series can't compare to ; FPS levels control well, and the Guncon 3 is more intuitive than a Wiimote ; Challenge missions and the FPS sidegame balance out the game's short runtime nicely

But the main game really is quite short ; The FPS sections are lackluster compared to dedicated FPS, let alone the similar ones for the Wii ; Punishes you for being left-handed

If you're a fan of the series this is a must-have, but it's enough of a niche genre that you probably already know if you want it. I can't imagine many people on the fence on this one.

Rail shooters should stay in the arcades.

Where Time Crisis 4 will lose points with some gamers is the unrelenting difficulty level, and even worse, limited amount of continues. The last part bothers me most as if I'm going to the arcade to take down Time Crisis, I'm not going into the game...
