Virtua Tennis 2009 (PlayStation 3)

To climb to the top of the tennis ranks in real life, you need to be a world-class athlete, put in countless hours perfecting your craft, and have an innate talent to hit a felt-covered ball extremely hard. In Virtua Tennis 2009, you just need stubborn...

Competently boring.

Visually, the game borderlines on awful, and I was really disappointed in the overall look. The character models are ugly, and while the options for the create a player mode are decent, it's hard to get anything created that you'll want to look at...

A massive misfire.

Updated rosters

Everything else found within the game's disc and online service

You would think such a major bug (and exploit) would be fixed, right? The good news: you'll no longer have to re-do serves when you encounter the let first service bug. The bad news: you won't be re-doing them because the game will be frozen. How they...

Virtua Tennis is too easy and inconsistent to entertain you for long.

Swing mechanics are easy to learn ; Fun minigames

World Tour mode is way too easy ; Gameplay lacks depth ; Online play is mired in lag

Virtua Tennis 2009 (2009) on PlayStation 3

Virtua Tennis 2009 was a disappointment for me. Maybe it's because I'm a rabid tennis fan and player and I wanted more from the series this year, or maybe it's because I feel like I've played this game before on the Dreamcast. Sumo Digital needs to...

Virtua Tennis 2009

The defending champion makes few unforced errors to wrap up another grand slam

Refined and polished ; Fun minigames ; Finally, online play

Being barred from tournaments due to clothes ; Overly familiar gameplay ; Not many new features

If you’re looking for one thing to justify upgrading to Virtua Tennis 2009 then online play is it. It's long overdue and it makes such a difference switching from the rather predictable AI to more fallible humans who are much harder to second-guess.

Virtua Tennis 2009- PS3

I have loved all previous Virtua Tennis games, and this one does not dissapoint. Maybe not the best of the series, but still a worthy contender. The game has a lengthy singleplayer mode and (if you can find a game) a decent online mode. The emphasis is...

I must say its an improvement on virtual tennis 3, But it still lacks that feel at times.Factors such as online play keep the interest going and now the fact that if you make a custom character, You aint called player 1 on the boards now!...Even the...

Enjoy the good gameplay

Good tennis gameplay, online multiplayer is engaging, mini-games are fun

Same old game, bad sound effects, player character models can look ugly

Virtua Tennis 2009

Having released Virtua Tennis 3 back in 2007 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, Sumo Digital did a nice job of bringing its top tier tennis game to next-generation consoles. Back again for Virtua Tennis 2009, can the game that debuted on the Dreamcast...

Some of the newer minigames are fun ; Looks great ; No more baseline dives ; Gameplay is good

But needs to evolve ; Sound is awful ; New play styles are a good idea, they just don't work as well as they should ; The AI is way easier than it should be ; Minor frame rate issues arise once in a while ; Online can be laggy

Some of the newer minigames are fun
