HP Pavilion dv4-2145dx

Editors' note: This review is part of our spring 2010 retail laptop and desktop roundup , which covers specific fixed configurations of popular systems found in retail stores.

Surprisingly robust audio output; slick design; sturdy construction; competent budget performer; includes HDMI port.

Substandard battery life; heavy and bulky for its size; glossy touch pad doesn't provide best feel and is positioned poorly on the keyboard deck.

Given its entertainment features, relative bulk, and poor battery life, the HP Pavilion dv4-2145dx is more of a mini desktop replacement than take-everywhere midsize laptop.

Blade Dancer: Lineage of Light (PSP)

Blade Dancer is one of the few role-playing games that employ an item-crafting system that is both easy to use and central to the gameplay, though that's one of its few distinguishing features. Still, if you don't mind running around in a predictable...

The PSP is slowly becoming the hot spot when it comes to portable RPG goodness. With companies like Nippon Ichi and Atlus pledging full support, fans of the genre have...

Great Crafting Mechanic ; Battle System Is Unique ; No More Magic Points

Storyline Is Predictable And Bland ; Character Development Lacking ; Sub-Par Visuals

Blade Dancer: Lineage of Light

I love Pokémon. I know, it seems an odd thing to say at the start of a review for a PSP game, but I only bring it up because it is an RPG. Most people shun the series, with some RPG fans claiming it isn't really one at all, and anime nuts claim the...

Looks great ; Sounds good ; Plenty to do ; Co-op Multiplayer

Hybrid combat ; No game pause ; Needs more save points ; Worthless map

As you hopefully noticed above, most of my complaints about Blade Dancer: Lineage of Light were rather minor, with my only real problem with the game being the hybrid turn-based/real-time combat. The game looks better than most PSP offerings,...

A little too dim for its own good.

Blade Dancer: Lineage of Light starts off pretty slowly with a lengthy introduction, and quickly becomes an exciting adventure. The story is developed with and incorporates voiceovers that add emotion to the critical portions of the tale. The game play...

Blade Dancer: Lineage of Light

One of the first RPGs I can remember playing that had item creation as a feature is the PSone classic, Star Ocean: Second Story. The idea was solid and provided a purpose to all the item gathering available in the game's world. Although the concept was...

Item creation system is one of the best around, and one of the top draws to the game ; Plenty of voice acting on a PSP title is always a good thing ; Battle system has some interesting ideas and twists

Fairly brief for an RPG ; Characters and story are paint-by-numbers

The item-creation system and battle system are laudable, but Blade Dancer: Lineage of Light falls on its own sword when it comes to delivering interesting characters or an intriguing storyline; as a result, the game falls short of must-have status.

PSP owners finally have a console-style RPG to call their own -- a mediocre console-style RPG.

For as decent as the battle system and item crafting parts of the game are, they simply can't hold up the entirely mediocre or cliche other bits. The game is solid, yes, but I was hoping the first console-level RPG would be a little more, well, engaging.

Blade Dancer: Lineage of Light review for the PSP

Rhythm and blues.

Awesome battle system; Looks good

Everything else is bland; Moves too slow; No overworld music

Still looking for a good PSP RPG? We've been waiting patiently too, and finally a few new titles have entered the fray. The latest, Hitmaker's Blade Dancer: Lineage of Light, offers surprisingly twinkle-toed gameplay for a genre steeped in the slow...

Compelling combat and crafting balance out a standard-issue RPG.

The combat and crafting systems are terrific; neat Ad Hoc multiplayer mode

The usual cornball characters and humdrum story drag the interesting stuff down; boring exploration and endless backtracking
